Thinking about Transfering to Penn SEAS, and need some help

I'm Currently a rising sophomore (Junior Credit wise) at a well respected Public Flagship in the Big 10, and I would like to transfer to Penn SEAS as a junior. My short list of stats:

-Major: Chemical Engineering
-GPA 3.98/4.00; ACT 32 Overall; SATII Math II- 800, Chem- 790
-Member of the Honors college, and completed the Honors Freshman Engineering Sequence
-Worked as a peer mentor for a Gen Chem Professor (He asked me)
-Joined Alpha Lambda Delta/ Pi Eta Sigma (Freshman Honors society)
-Classes Taken: Calculus, Physics (Mech, E&M, Waves/Quant), Differential Equations, and some Engineering classes (Programming, ect.)
-This fall I will be working as a co-op at an oil refinery with a major oil company
-HS GPA: 4.25 and somewhere between the top 7 and 9 percent of my graduating class

I feel I am a competitive applicant overall, but the major reason I want to attend Penn is because I want to break into Finance, which Penn is well known for more so than my current institution. My transfer essay will mostly focus on that fact, and maybe a larger challenge.

Is it worth applying as a transfer for this reason, or will they think that my reasoning is not good enough to warrant a transfer?

Just to make clear I am still looking to major in Chemical Engineering, but I am mostly attracted to Penn because of the recruitment they get from top companies in the financial field.

Anyone? (10 char)

Are you trying to get into Wharton (which is where financial recruiting happens)? This is a very tough transfer and will require a lot of pre reqs, so do check what’s necessary.

No I’m looking to transfer to SEAS, and I do know Wharton gets most of the recruits but Im sure there will be recruiters that target SEAS and Penn in general because of its name recognition.

I guess I should also mention I am interested in Energy Trading/Banking where a degree from UPenn Engineering would help me break into.

if your looking for finance or a career in business, i suggest applying to wharton. you would be a competitive applicant for them as well as seas. you have outstanding stats in every repect so good luck and nail the essay.

The problem with transferring to Wharton for me is that in order to apply as a junior transfer I would need to take Econ and accounting courses which would be very hard for me to do in 2 quarters, unless I can choose to apply as a sophomore transfer (not sure if I can, but I don’t have any business courses/Econ courses so I might be able to transfer as one). I have completed all the math, chemistry, physics, and the social science/humanities needed to apply to SEAS.

Anyone else?

Anyone, I would like to know how to approach this essay. Also after doing some research I have also eyed at Columbia Operations Research/Financial Engineering, would I stand a better chance there because of my current interests?
