Thinking About Transferring to URochester

As the title says, I'm considering transferring to Rochester next Fall. I currently attend a university of similar prestige and academic rigor--however, it has a large party scene. Interestingly enough, I went to this school for its "great social life". I, by no means, am a partier (but I am a big nerd, haha), and I really feel as if my current school is not a "good fit" for me.

Essentially, I feel that I can better succeed as a student and person at a place where I am happy. Can someone inform me more about the social life at Rochester? This is a big decision, so please tell as much as possible.

Well, first off, are you saying that because there is a large party scene you are not able to resist and are worried about your own success or have you not been able to find like- minded non-partiers? Are you sure a transfer -looks like you are looking at several schools- will make you happy? Are you sure you can get in and receive aid at a school you were previously wait-listed at? Did you eventually get in? Maybe it would be more advantageous to try to make this school work. Of course there is nothing to lose applying for transfer and deciding later. U of R also has it’s partiers but perhaps not to the same degree…

What school do you go to now?

If you’re a big nerd, you will not feel left out. I like to describe UR as a place filled with normal nerds, meaning kids with interests outside the classroom but who really want to learn and take their work seriously. My kid would say this.

What is your major rubi32?

@sdgal I am not a partier, and am not loving a culture were the majority of the students are getting wasted 3-4 days a week. I am not 100% set on transferring, but I want to learn as much as possible about other schools before I make the decision.P.S. how did you know I was waitlisted lol? I removed myself from all schools/waitlists after I chose this school.

@ep96 I’d rather not say (but be sure that it’s a higher tier school that has a LARGE party culture)

@lergnom Thanks–just trying to gather information.

@lakemom engineering

Well you can apply as a transfer to various schools you are interested in and see if they accept you. It just takes money and your time to apply.

Then if you are accepted, you really have to find a way, even if it means coming on the weekend, to revisit the schools you are considering transferring to. You need to interview students directly to find out what the partying culture is like compared to where you are.

Don’t know what area of engineering you are majoring in but most are strong at UR and they just opened this new Dig Media/Audio Music Engineering building that has 3D printer and a machine shop.

BTW, anyone can read your old posts and see what you have posted previously. That is how people know things about you.

Sorry rubi32- thought you knew all your posts pretty much tell all about you…where you are now, etc. - it helps to answer questions…have you considered Case Western? Great for engineering! - and the atmosphere you are looking for. Also - I love URochester but am not familiar with the current party atmosphere.

Thanks. I looked at Case Western and had the same feeling, but it may be a bit too far away for me. I will look more into Roch, though.
