I'm a senior and I have AP Econ on my schedule for next semester, but I'm thinking of dropping it. I already have a pretty loaded schedule as it is and I kinda want to enjoy my last semester of high school rather than spend it working my ass off. Obviously I can still self study in my free time and take the AP exam, but the class is a lot of work. I'm applying to Cal Poly SLO/Pomona, SJSU, Washington, and Illinois.

well technically colleges see what classes you take when you apply. Yet, they don’t see if you actually took the second semester class until you submit your final transcript. So I don’t really see dropping Econ as a problem.

I see. On my apps I reported taking AP Econ in the second semester. Should I call the schools or will they even care?

I would “forget” to inform those schools.

Rtgrove123,

the problem with “forgetting” to inform the school of a class reflected on your curriculum on the application is that the school’s decision to admit you is based on what you give them…and when the school reviews your final transcript in the summer, they will discover that you did not take the curriculum you indicated,in other words, you falsified your application, which is grounds for the university to rescind your acceptance.

Academic integrity is important on college campuses. When a school discovers lies on an application, it is not taken lightly. Bye bye liar, hello to the next name on the wait list.

I thought AP Econ is a requirement to graduate from California high school, is it not?

Please check with your high school to see if it is or not.

Erm… no. No AP classes are required to graduate from California high schools, nor are any econ classes.

But the Economics class is a requirement, not necessarily AP Economics. But most schools do not have regular Economics, only AP Economics.

I already took regular economics the summer before junior year.

If that is the case, I guess you can drop it. Just make sure you have all the requirements you need to graduate.

Check the schools websites. Many if not most require an applicant to inform them at the time any changes are made to their reported senior year schedule. You may get away with not informing them, then again, you may not and be rescinded.

I agree with boysx 3. You’ll need to inform all of the schools you’ve applied to about the change in your schedule for spring. And I do know students whose offers of admission have been rescinded when their final transcript did not match the self-reported courses on the application. Worst case, student wanted to move into her dorm @ UC Santa Cruz and there was a note for her upon check-in to see the RD. She had ignored repeated communication from the university regarding the rescindment, but she certainly got the message that day.
