I signed up for AP economics, regular government last year, hoping I would get the AP class first semester and the regular second semester. I got in reg gov't first semester, so at the end of the semester, I switched to reg econ since I knew it was better to keep my other grades up than try to handle another AP class second semester. I didn't think much of it when I switched, but I put AP Econ for the courses I was planning to take this year on my applications, so I realize now that I need to notify the colleges I applied to about this. Is this only if I get accepted, or should I tell them now, before decisions have been made? how do I tell them? do you think I'll get rejected (or have more of a chance of getting rejected) because of this?

I'm super nervous about this. for the schools that are harder to get into, (aka all the schools I want to go to!!) I'm scared this will push me into the no pile if they're on the fence...

What’s best is to call each individual school’s office of undergrad. admissions and explain your situation. Most likely they’d want a written letter. It is so important that you tell them ASAP.

Do not freak out, I’m sure this will get fixed. :)

If you’ve included the AP class on your applications, you should email the admission’s offices and inform them that you’ve dropped the class. Send a short email.

Here’s an example:

I previously reported that I was planning on taking AP economics during the second half of my senior year. After much thought, I’ve decided to take regular economics rather than AP economics.

wow thank you both so much! I’ll do this as soon as possible, but I need to get my teacher recs in first. (my teachers are being so difficult and even though I asked them in october, its just not getting done and some of my deadlines were the 1st!! ugh!)

thanks for your help! I can’t wait till this whole process is over!!
