I am currently a freshman at Wake Forest University and so far I am somewhat unhappy. I want to major in neurology and there isn’t a neurology major but I can major in biology and minor in neuroscience. I am on premed track, which is good here. Greek like is really big here (60% of girls) and I don’t love that but I feel like you have to be a part of it. And tuition is very high. My parents are willing to pay it but it seems ridiculous to spend that kind of money at a school that isn’t perfect for me, especially if I want to go to medical school. My high school weighted GPA was a 95 and SAT was 2160. So far I am doing pretty well in my classes at Wake. Some schools I might be interested in…
University of Washington Seattle
Emory
NYU
Open to other options - I just want a school with less greek like, more down to earth people, a neurology major, and a good premed school with research opportunities.
Thoughts/suggestions???
If you can get into Emory, you’re golden. Great school.
What geographic regions would you be willing to go to?
I’m really open to anything. I live in NY but have family in Atlanta and Chicago so any of those three regions would be ideal. I visited Emory’s campus and really like it. Are you a student at emory? If so what is the social life like there? Wake is just too big of a party school for me I’m really looking for somewhere where greek life isn’t big and has a party scene, but not one that is overwhelming.
Udub is a really and up and coming public university. They have very strong science departments as well as attendant research and facilities. Student body is very diverse, and while they do have Greek life, it is not Greek-centric. By and large Seattle is a pretty young city with great musical venues and fab bars/cafes. Will you be OOS? I’d give it serious consideration…

Hi,
If you don’t feel comfortable in your school, I would suggest taking transfer to USW. My friends say its a great place,in a beautiful city- Seattle . NYU is expensive, but I guess it’s a great school to for Journalism and Filmmaking.I’m in a similar situation like you are, I don’t like going to college, there’s too much going on campus, and I’m inherently an introvert, so I’m sort of a loner. I’m thinking of transferring too as well for that reason-campus atmosphere .
Yes I would be OOS. UW seems like it could be a really great option for me. I’m just really nervous about transferring and moving all the way across the country for a school. Thank you for the info!
I’m not a student there, but I have a friend who is-there’s a great alumni network, school pride is very high, and it’s very highly ranked. Greek life is still prominent there-you’ll get that with a lot of southern schools-but from what I can tell from what I’ve heard, people are very happy there.
What about the University of Rochester? There’s less Greek life and they have a neuroscience major and encourage undergrad research.
Northeastern has a behavioral neuroscience major-we’ve sent kids to med school at Yale, Harvard, Boston College, Stanford, and a few other big names. I’d imagine co-op looks good when you’re applying to med schools.
