Currently an economics major at the University of Texas with a little over 60 hours and a 3.7 GPA. Is it worth it to transfer? and If so what are some schools I can apply to? Really wanting to study Finance or Accounting and right now it seems that I will be unable to study that at Texas
- Why can't you study it at UT?
- Is it a BS or BA in econ?
- What do you want to do with your life? Accounting isn't worth it as a degree IMO unless you want to become a CPA.
@philbegas to transfer into the business school at UT the GPA cutoff is 3.8. It’s a BA in econ. Interested in consulting once I graduate
Ah that’s a high cutoff. Do you intend on getting a graduate degree? What sort of consulting are you more interested in?
This article has some examples
https://www.roberthalf.com/management-resources/consultants/what-are-the-different-types-of-consulting
In addition, being a personal financial planner is a sort of consulting.
Becoming a CFA or CFP could be useful for these sorts of things.
@philbegas Management consulting would be ideal but considering the number of hours I have It’s looking like it would not be worth it to go elsewhere

“The Certified Management Consultant (CMC) designation may improve job prospects.”
How many units do you have?
If you’re going to go there and stick it out and get an econ degree - you could still qualify to work in some sort of consulting. However, if you have any free electives left, try to take introductory finance, accounting, etc classes
@philbegas Around 70
I know that you can’t switch into the b-school, but could you take a minor from the b-school?
https://liberalarts.utexas.edu/economics/undergraduate/Degree-Requirements.php
Normally that’s allowed without applying to the school.
@philbegas Yea I can minor in finance or accounting
I would do that then. If it was me, I’d do a finance minor.
When you said 70 units you mean semester units right? Not quarter units.
