Thinkpad t450s for computer science major

I’m planning to buy a Lenovo thinkpad t450s for college. I’m a computer science major and will use this laptop all the way up to graduation. The specs are maxed out with an i7, 12gb ram etc. Is it good enough for my intended major?
Around the same cost I can manage a MacBook Pro 2015 model. Will a MacBook be better for cs or windows?
P.S : Haven’t used Mac OSX in my entire life, quite good with windows. Thanks !

I would personally want lighter laptop with higher resolution.

if you gonna code on your laptop, i think high res will helpout. ( more viewing area, less scrolling.)

Mac OSX is not bad ( my u310 lenovo duat boot windows and mac) but I think you will eventually switch over to linux.

check techbargain and slickdeals.

remeber

you need to carry this around. get ligter laptop /you must like the keyboard / go for high res 13 or 14.

It’s not that heavy of a laptop. I have the T440p, which is much heavier and still not that much of a hassle to carry around. Personally, I’d rather invest money in a larger battery and higher specs rather than a lighter computer. The thinkpads are solid laptops.

As for OS, you wont find people in academia in CS using windows. It’s either Mac or Linux. Plenty of students will use windows, at least at lower levels, but learning a unix -based system (either Linux or Mac) will be a very valuable skill. If you opt for a PC, you should dual boot something like Ubuntu at some point and learn to use it.
