Ever since the housing assignments email came out for the class of 2016, I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since.

Would a kind upperclassman soul please offer some helpful advice/tips/insight on the Third North dorming experience? I'm in the South tower, on an explorations floor, I think.

I do have a few questions and I would really appreciate any help.
Are there closets in each individual room?
How do the suite mates decide who brings what for the kitchenette and etc?
I understand that in a double room, two people are assigned in that particular room, but who gets which side? Is it first come first serve?
How many bathrooms are there? As far as I could tell from the floor plan, it looked like 1 full bathroom for all 3 rooms, which means all 6 people?
Is there any way I can get a tour of the dorms this summer before the actual move in day?
What should I definitely bring/not bring?

Thank you so much for your time.

I’m going to be in Third North South tower too!

That being said, all my responses are “general” as there are a rooms which might be an “oddball” and have something that others don’t (or be missing something.)

Every room has separate closets for each resident. They are side by side, there are also drawers under each bed for more storage.

How suite mates figure out what to bring is really just up to you and your suite mates. I suggest getting in contact with all of them either on Facebook or an email chain (you can create on using your NYU email) and then you can coordinate it.

In terms of who gets which side, it is first come first serve. While the individual bedrooms are pre-determined based on your letter, the actual bed is chosen by whoever gets there first! It’s not a big deal though because you can always change it and at least they aren’t bunk beds!

Bathrooms work differently depending on your suite. If you have six people, you’ll have TWO bathrooms. 4 people have only one bathroom.

As far as I’ve heard, you can not get a tour unless you know someone living there right now. NYU has people living in there for summer courses so they can’t bring you in. However, you should definitely go on Facebook and search “Third North 2012-2013” as it is very active right now and next year’s RA’s are already on there posting pictures and answering questions!

Things to bring are pretty much the college essentials (sheets, clothes, supplies, etc) and maybe some kitchen items. Of course, you should coordinate this with your suitemates. Definitely do NOT bring a fridge as Third North dorms all have their own fridges (unless you want a mini fridge for your own personal room.)

I honestly wouldn’t worry so much because Third North is one of the top choices for most people at NYU! From what I’ve read/heard, it is definitely a dorm you WANT to be in! I hope I helped!

Thank you so much!
