I want my third teacher recommendation to be from my Spanish teacher who knows me very well (the best), much better than the other two (English and Physics). However, he is retired and so he isn't on my school's Naviance page. He would write a completely different recommendation from what the other two would write, so this third one would show another unique side of me. How could I have him send the recommendation? By mail to Cornell? The other teachers are sending by Naviance to the school.

I thought Cornell only wanted two letters of recommendation?

They do but I want to send one extra one haha.

Applicants can send in 3 and plenty have been accepted. You would probably need to have him mail it directly to admissions (give him a prepared envelope) but call Cornell to be sure.

Nearly all colleges explicitly proscribe additional letters of recommendation unless you really think it’s of the utmost importance. You should perhaps consider dumping one of your other teacher recommendations.

In any case, yes, the best way to send a third recommendation is to give him a bunch of addressed and stamped envelopes.

You should really only send a 3rd recommendation if somehow you can have 3 recommendations that each tell something unique about you that highlights significant academic achievement. Why not just have the retired teacher send one and one current teacher?

D was in a similiar situation had designated two teachers but set designer of musicals she was in was former Cornell alumni president & wanted to write a letter of rec. for her. Gave him an adressed, stamped envelope. Must not have hurt, she was accepted.

Hello,

I would advice that you contact the Undergraduate Admissions Office directly since they are the only ones that can give you the correct answer. Please feel free to email them at admissions@cornell.edu or call them during normal business hours at 607.255.5241.

I emailed the CALS and they said that you should NOT send in more than 2 letters of rec

Uh, no going to disagree with you there, that is just ridiculous.

I emailed somebody who works at admissions and they said no more than 4 was fine.
