Third time applying, transfer chances?

Hi I am applying for Winter 2013 admission when the app opens. I'll keep it simple and easy to read!

College GPA:
- 3.64 through 32 credits at my current 4-year university
- 4.0 through 17 credits as guest student at local CC
Total: 3.76 through 49 credits

HS GPA: 3.6
ACT: 30

Notes:
- In-state student
- Third time applying for admission
- Received full ride to 3rd best university in the state (Wayne State Univ.)
- Student Senate President in High School
- Sparse business/finance extracurricular club participation in college
- I plan to get another 15 credits this Fall 2012 at Wayne State Univ.

I would say you have a very good chance of being admitted! The reason I say so is because I was in literally your exact same position - I only got accepted to Michigan on my third time applying, and I had a 3.76 from a 4-year state university in Michigan/approximately 50 credits at the time I applied as well! Your high school stats are strong, you’ll have a lot of credits by the time you apply, your college GPA is pretty good, and you’re clearly determined to be a student at Michigan. They’ll see that, and it will look very good!

I think you have an excellent shot - I did finally get in (third time is a charm!) in March of 2011 after three applications and it was worth all the previous rejections and the struggle. I think it will be worth it to you, too, once you are in :)

Best of luck to you!

I think you will be in UMich prefers Jr. Transfers

Wayne State the 3rd best university in the state? Albo23 you are a pretty funny guy. As for transfer chances you have a pretty good shot but it might depend on the amount of transfer apps to U of M.

@gvnee89 - I’m not sure why you think it’s funny. I suppose if you would develop a response that would be helpful and may even be funny itself! Thanks for the chance.

EDIT: Maybe MTU is more rigorous? But I would entertain a response.

^I think it’s fair to say there are a few other public and private universities in Michigan that are as or more rigorous in terms of admit stats than Wayne State. Among the public, I’d start with Michigan State, Grand Valley, Michigan Tech, Kalamazoo College, and possibly Calvin, for example. So I don’t know that I’d get too attached to the school’s actual rank per se, because it’s in-line with several peer institutions.

That’s not to take away anything from your accomplishments, which I believe appear to be sufficient for strong transfer chances. Best wishes for same!

Well albo23 I’m not taking anything away from you either but Wayne State is not the 3rd best school in the state. Just in the Detroit area I think Oakland University and University of Michigan-Dearborn offer a little bit better education than Wayne State. Also University of Detroit Mercy is a little better for undergrad than Wayne State. Also, I think Grand Valley offers a better education than Wayne State, along with Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Hillsdale, Hope College, and Kalamazoo College.

To be flat out honest, Wayne State must have shafted you on a scholarship or two. Especially when you say OU, and UM-Dearborn are better, let alone UD-Mercy? I would like to see how these schools fair up against a university built in the cultural district of Detroit. The university is composed of 13 different schools, has ~33,000 students, ~3,000 international students, >400 concentrations, a top 20 med school alongside a top 50 physics program and a top 100 law school, funded by a $220 million endowment.

But sure, gvnee89, list off some more schools for your own sake and continue to tell me how I’m a “funny guy.”

Wayne state offers a great education but its hard to say its #3 school in michigan there are so many other parallel universities Kettering, Detroit Mercy all i can say is rankings don’t really matters it what you make of your education and the opportunities your presented with

Well albo23 I don’t have anything against Wayne State, and I think they have decent graduate programs. I did not even apply to Wayne State and never really wanted to apply there. However, at what time I was pre-med and it would have been nice to attend the WSU med school. I applied to Grand Valley, Central Michigan, and Michigan State and was easily accepted to all 3 colleges. I received 2 scholarships from GVSU and a decent sized scholarship to CMU and I was invited to the MSU ADS competition. If I did apply to WSU, I might have received the Presidential Scholarship, but they are not clear on the minimum ACT and GPA. I had a 3.8 GPA and a 29 ACT while WSU lists 3.8 GPA and a 30 ACT as the average for their Presidential Scholarship.

Also, Wayne has a lot of positives such as the graduate schools at Wayne and diverse population. However, some of the downsides would be the 21 median ACT score for incoming freshmen, 31% graduation rate, and below 10% graduation rate for black students (as reported in the Detroit News a few years ago).

at one time*
