hey greatescape…stats aren’t everything.

they probably just though that you applied there as a safety and had no intention of actually going

MORGS, that’s called Tufts Syndrome, which is the link I posted above.

I just found out that I was rejected from BU. Sorry if I sound disgustingly awful for the following, but:
I need to have some sort of closure… if that makes any sense. haha
The letter that they sent online for the rejections was awful. My mother is an alum at BU and it basically said they took into consideration that my mom was an alum but couldn’t do anything really about it. They also said towards the end that I should consider re-applying in one to two years after I have completed more challenging coursework another college.
I’m sorry… but WHAT.
I’m taking the most challenging courses given at my school, and have taken 4 AP courses, plus all honors classes. I consider myself a very strong leader and culturally different seeing how I’m turkish, syrian and lebanese.

I’ve gotten waitlisted to two other colleges this week (gettysburg and BC) and I’m completely devastated, seeing how no one really wants me…

Man Habibi1, sorry that you have been rejected and wait listed from those colleges.

I’m sorry to tell you, but that’s nothing special at BU. BU has students from basically everywhere on earth.

waitlisted, oh well. seeing the stats of other people that were waitlisted has just further validated my opinion that college admissions is a crapshoot. it makes absolutely no sense. expect the worse and hope for the best…

Just checked and I too was wait-listed. I too thought I was a match for BU.

@ xgreatescapex: I also know a girl who had around a 1700 sat and a 3.4 (w/out ANY honors/aps) who got in.

Oh well, not that I’m super upset, just a little disappointed. At first I really wanted BU, but then I realized how expensive it would be and not worth it. Probably going to UCSB now.

peachcobbler, where are you from? I got into ucsb and bu and am from boston, but ucsb seems SO much better because I want to major in physics/engineering

Habibi: Your last sentence is what hurt me most, as well. I busted my ass for four years and am told that I’m not good enough. It stings. However, now I’m going to spend the next four years at my fallback proving to myself that I am in fact as smart as I believed. Show that your character combined with intelligence is why you should have gotten in. Good luck!

I’m thinking it’s really the essays and the ECs that seperated a lot of the people. I know somebody who got 2340 SATs in my school, but when I saw the essays he wrote, I wasn’t suprised. He also lacked, in comparasion to myself atleast, a lot of community and school service.

I wish you the best of luck though.

mackeenca: Hi! I’m from California. So UCSB will cost about 20k for me versus the 50k that BU costs, if I had gotten in. UCSB’s top major is physics so if you really want to go into physics you should go! Maybe if you decide to go, I’ll see you around sometime. :]]

habibi1, You didn’t post your scores or grades or much other information but it sounds as if you may have placed too much credence in your mother’s alumni status and your ethnicity. There are also a number of grammatical errors in your post. Did you have similar errors in your app?
