This is a joke

Stuck at waiting for decision for 3+ months. Every other school I applied to has already decided. Even heard that there may not be housing even if I get in, which is just great since I am moving across country. Can’t even book a trip out there because I am not wasting my money if I can’t get in or live there and b y the time I hear, flights will be crazy. Why is it every other school seems to have their act together but this one? I don’t even think I want to go there now if I do get in. Who knows what it will be like there if they can’t even handle this

So called admissions and what a joke. First the website states under impacted majors that decisions will be made in February. Obviously that didn’t happen. The voice recording says they will decide by 4/30 although the “live” person who finally answered said mid April. Hey thanks for giving me so much time for me to decide. They then transferred me to housing who said there is still housing available for freshman, but there may not be by the time I hear. But the school mandates that freshman live on campus unless their full then you can’t - she actually said that to me. So let’s look at what we have, a college that can’t decide after 4 months of having my application, my major that is impacted and housing that is limited and may not be available. Wow thanks Cal Poly you are making it easy to turn you down

I’m beyond frusturated as well @kalibnd it’s sad that UCLA and UCB have already made decisions as some of the most applied-to schools in the world, yet a Cal State/Poly can’t get it together. Relying on such wide notification dates is really sad.

So I applied exactly 6 months ago(October 1st) and I still don’t have a decision. This is ridiculous.

Agreed, this is ridiculous. They announced that they would release decisions by “April 1st” but I still have no decision.

going to a UC so hah. if cal poly is like this, then it might be worse once you start attending.

My son applied and has the same action “ready for decision”. When I called I was told we could still possibly hear up to May 1! When I questioned this (hearing and having to get payment in the same day) I was told that we should have heard from our other schools and be ready to commit when we hear from Pomona. Then she backpedaled and said we’d probably hear by April 30.
It’s his first choice school but there is no way I’m sending him if he can’t even get housing, I’m also not feeling very confident of what will happen once he’s there.
On the other hand, his second choice school has had students call to see if he needs more info, we’re invited to events…it’s a stark contrast.

@Kangamom‌ I’m pretty surprised too. I’m still waiting for my acceptance or denial. many of my friends have already heard from all of their schools. it’s known that March 1st is when national acceptances or denials come out, and we’re having to wait until May to hear, when may is the national day to commit. I don’t understand it at all and I’m honestly really really surprised. Gotta wonder what’s going on.

And if we hear on April 30 or May 1, what about financial aid? I doubt that will come anytime soon. I am going to CA in a couple weeks. If I don’t hear anything by then I am moving on and deciding on another school. As it is Cal Poly, once near the top of my choices is now last on my list because of the way this has been handled. I don’t have any faith in them and how they run things.

That is frustrating - as you suggest, housing is filling up at other campuses. I’d turn my focus to a school that gave yo a definite Yes and get on with your life.

Good luck.

I’ve decided to just move forward without CPP. From things like reserving housing, financial aid, and admitted student events, CPP isn’t high enough on my list to put some things at risk by holding off payment or making me wonder if I’m wasting my time. If this delay was for SLO or another top program, then I’d feel the risk was worth the reward for me. Last night we made all the payments for housing and freshmen orientation and I feel so much better today knowing that things are done and not worrying if waiting is the right choice. If I don’t get accepted, then I’ll be even happier that I didn’t wait. If I get accepted, I seriously doubt that I’d accept. Especially if it’s close to May 1.

BTW I applied to a 5 other schools and heard from the last one over 3 weeks ago.

Glad i’m not the only one. This really makes you wonder, what is going on at Poly? I heard back from every other school a while ago… a yet not a single word from CPP. I think i’m going to just move on at this point…

same

Was your major impacted? Cal poly was actually the first college I heard back from. But ya just go with the school you are sure about. Don’t bother wasting money

I agree that the wait is horrible BUT don’t lose hope… I just got accepted to my alternate major about 10 mins ago. I had been “ready for decision” since December and checked my portal 2x a day since end of January. I was hoping for the impacted Biology/Botany program but instead got in to the Plant Science major… Disappointed AND happy at the same time. Just didn’t need the year of Biology/Physics/Calculus Ive done or the MicroBio class I am in now, just an extra 30 units ya know, couple 3 extra semesters + prereqs so make it an extra 2 years  ugh

Applied Mathematics/statistics '14 checking in here.

I was a transfer student when I applied. I think they admit by department. I am currently waiting on an admission decision for the master’s program in mechanical engineering.

I don’t know why some people take forever to get a decision, but I think I got mine in April 2012. I could not get housing, but I had no problems getting financial aid. I found a nice albeit somewhat expensive apartment (995 w/utilities) and lived there for two years. I enjoyed my education very much. It was tough and I was all smiles on graduation day. I got a job fairly quickly as a programmer. I moved out east and I was somewhat surprised that my employer knew Cal Poly Pomona and that there was also Cal Poly SLO since they’re more regional. A couple of the electrical engineers here said they’ll make sure their kids apply to Cal Poly Pomona mostly cuz they’re impressed with how I went from knowing nothing to mastery of their programming language. I got promoted 3 months in. Not surprisingly, they opened up their job listings to math majors (they usually hire electrical or computer engineers) and the ones hired recently are Cal Poly SLO and Cal Poly Pomona alumni.

I was getting antsy about my transfer decision too. I was ready to commit to another school. I’m glad I didn’t though and I had a great education. Same with my mechanical engineering friend. He got his decision in May and has had so many cool opportunities and internships. He’s got a good job lined up after graduation.

I have yet to receive a decision as well (undergrad applying for Business Administration) and it’s been stuck at ready for decision for a few months. I can’t hold out much longer because other colleges are requesting my decision by May 1st and I was expecting to hear back from pomona on 4/1 to make a well thought out decision.

I’ve given up on CPP. I just accepted SFSU.
Good luck to those still waiting on CPP!

To all of you who are at ready for decision, be thankful, im a transfer from Mt. SAC that still has decision PENDING on the portal, I applied October 10,

Now the machine says final admission decisions will be made by Mid April. I love how they wont even give a hard date like April 15.
