This is eating me up

So I started freshman year up really bad! I was not doing work in class I was just coming & talking to my friends because i wanted to fit in. Stuipd me! I failed 1&2 marking pd with Fs but then i relized am smarter than this in 3rd marking pd i brought my grade up from a F to a B+ but still, i already failed freshmen year my Gpa is a 1.6. Could i bring that 1.6 to a 3.7 by ending of junoir year??? I am planning to get high honor roll next year , could my Gpa get to a 3.7.

Feel free to comment pleaseeee!!! Thank you

1.6? Wow. If I were you I would attempt to get all A’s from here on out. Not only will this show improvement for colleges (upward trend) but they will know you got your act together. Freshman year is one of the most challenging times in a student life due to the new environment, classes, etc.

It depends on what classes you end up taking, and how many of them. Let’s go on an average number, 4 classes per semester. Say you get 6 As and 2 Bs. 95 for the As, and 85 for the Bs. That gives you a roughly 3.7 gpa for sophomore year. Continue that junior year, with an AP thrown in there. You get a B in that AP, two other Bs, and 5 As. That’s about 3.6. Average those out with the 1.6, and you’re looking at a 3.

Even if you get a 4.0 GPA for sophomore and junior year, it’s not going up to a 3.7. If we count in senior year, the highest it can get is a 3.4, with a 4.0 unweighted.

If you take many AP classes (I’d say, 4-5 total) and get As in them, you have a chance. But you’ll really have to work your butt off to do so.

Sorry bro. You’re in a hole.

EDIT: I like what the above person said. When applying to colleges, mention in your essay that the reason for the low GPA was because you screwed up freshman year, but if you do whip yourself into shape and do really good, you have a chance at getting their attention.

Luckily, some good colleges will give you a pass on Freshman year, but the rest of your program needs to be in apple pie order from here on out to take advantage of that. Even one tiny hiccup and you’re done.

You will still have to live with the lower GPA caused by the Freshman year, however. My GPA calculator isn’t designed to go as low as 1.6 in the Freshman year, but I think it says about the best you could graduate with would be 3.4 - 3.6 depending on how many classes per day you have.

Could you simply retake your entire freshman year, especially remembering that many of your future high school courses are likely to depend heavily on your mastery of the subject-matter you essentially ignored in your first year?
