hi, so this is my sophomore schedule for the year. idk if I should make changes or not.
first semester:
Gym
Honors Pre-Calc/Trig
AP Environmental Science (all year)
US History
Chemistry 1
Honors English
Earth Science
AP Environmental Science (all year)
Chemistry 2
Band
is that too many science classes? I really wanna take earth science, but i’m also taking apes. Would this look bad for colleges? (i’ve taken two levels of a language and will prob take more, but it couldn’t fit at all In my schedule this year)
but is taking earth science alongside chem 2 and apes bad for college admissions? should I wait to take earth science?
In HS students are expected to take English, Math, Science, SS and Foreign language as core subjects. If you are looking towards top colleges, it is better if you continue with foreign language rather than overload with so many science classes.
Plus I would not take three science courses simultaneously as you have labs for each one.
Well colleges won’t hold it against you if your high school doesn’t offer it. Still, as far as science goes, I would get the biology/chemistry/physics trio on your transcript before taking any other sciences.
Yes. You must have one year of each core (English/language arts, science, math, and social studies/history). I would add foreign language too, but your school doesn’t offer it. After that, aside from any school-imposed graduation requirements (gym, etc.) and colleges’ individual requirements (check each web page of each college of interest to you for their list), you are free to take what you like.
It appears your school may be on a block schedule.
I would ask your guidance counselor if the school offers options to continue French (perhaps an online class, dual enrollment at a CC).
As I stated above, I would not take 3 science courses at the same time. Typically taking three lab classes simultaneously is too much. But we do not know you at all so all anyone here can do is make generalized statements. IMO it would be more worthwhile to speak to your guidance counselor and current teachers who know you and the demands at your HS to get their input.
As an aside, do you even need earth science if you take APES? Also as others have stated, you should prioritize taking bio/chem/and physics.
