This is pretty complex...please try to evavluvate my chances

Hi,
I know this is a little late but I wanted to know a little about my strengths and where you guys think I will get in.
I am a green card holder, and recently moved from India and have been studying in Naperville IL. My academics are as follows:

3.58ish weighted GPA (with only 3 weighted classes and the remaining regular) cumulative for the Junior Year
Very high class ranks like 3rd and 4th in my Indian transcript for 9th and 10th grade. The problem however is that most of my marks are in the mid 80s which was pretty commmon in India. my ICSE % is an 88.4%
SAT: M: 710 V:610 W:680
ACT: 30 composite
all are after having english as a second language. I am sending all this to colleges.
SAT IIs: Chem: 760 Math IIC: 730 Lit: 560
ECs:
My research stuff kind of really makes me stand out. I have, not actually worked on a research, but did some lab work with two doctors at University of Chicago Hospitals both of whom wrote me pretty decent recommendations. I did the summer session at the University of Chicago (Research in the Biological Sciences RIBS) and got a B in that course, transcripts of which again I am sending. I helped a doctor work on a research at UIC for which i got my third extracurricular letter of recommendation which is also very well written. I have shadowed doctors.
My ECs in India have debate, quiz, cricket and other stuff and in the USA i have done math team and some volunteer work at the Naperville public library.

Few things: My 1st Semester GPA is much higher than my second semester GPA so that could count as declining performance, but I am sending in my first quarter GPA (4.1667) also. My senior year classes are all AP and I doing relatively well in them. Also, i hope I can maintain my GPA for the semester but I highly doubt it itll end up being a 4.0ish if im lucky.

I already got rejected at the University of Chicago but I know why, I was just reading my third essay which was full of crap. it was very generic and i know that and my junior year grades were the reason for my rejection.
I am looking for any Medical scholar Combined BA/MD programs veryveryvery inrested in the UIC GPPA, have already applied UMKC and a lot of other programs. I have been accepted into Saint Louis University (but im interested in the medical program otherwise wouldnt really want to there) UNiversity of Dayton (Joint Admissions to Medical Sschool program is something im really interested in). GPPA is my top choice. if i dont get into a medical scholars program do you think i could get into northwestern undergrad? i know i wont be able to get into HPME.

College List: Dont mind the other stuff its just stuff from a school program where it tells you which universities you have applied to.

i have applied to about 25 schools and though i doubt ill get into any medical scholars program i hope to get into some pretty good undergraduate university though i dont know what really to think because i got rejected from the university of chicago. i have written a petition letter which talks about how my academic condition was for the junior year and why my GPA is bad.

thanks a lot please leave any suggestions they would be highly appreciated.

what the.... why 25 schools... thats so much money wow this thread scares me...

lol......so many people say that. i applied online to more than most and so was able to remove the money aspect there. and i had also made $1000 through UIC which I pretty much spent here so yeah 25 is a funny number but i did it just for the fun of it.

I hope you haven't sent in all those applications to all those schools. It seems to me like you are going for prestige and don't care about the schools themselves which is kind of disturbing.

If you didn't get into UChicago I would be shocked if you got into:

Brown, Cornell, Harvard, NYU, Northwestern, Princeton, Stanford, Johns Hopkins, University of Pennsylania

that would cut your college list down a lot. Pick your top 2 out of those and apply to them. I'd keep Lehigh and St Louis, and pick a safety. Figure out what you want into a college before you apply to half of the ivy league, happiness is possible other places :)

i really want to go to a good school. do i have any chance at northwestern? is it a half decent match.

also......i really attribute a whole lot of not getting into UChicago with my essay. it wasnt spectacular or atleast what it should have been. any other ideas about the combined BA/MD programs especially UIC GPPA and the one at SLU?

I think you might have a chance at some of the lowe ranked schools on your list and also at UChicago because recs/ summer sesh and connections there. However, you are disgustingly prestige oriented and outside of medical/academic interests you have no substance or interest. Also, scores are low but english isn't your first lang.

dude go for a fit, not the name... you could get into harvard but hate that 4 years of your life.. name is most DEFINETELY not everything man

i dont really have a "fit" as such. i mean, moving to the USA was to only do one thing: become a decent doctor and only prestigious schools can help me get in. Can anyone please evaluvate my chances at northwestern?? that is a college im really looking forward to now.
thanks a lot

alos, since most of my american cousins are in very prestigious schools and combined medical programs, i just want to get into a decent school.

It's kind of depressing that you don't care about the school you want to go to in regards to learning, education or anything. Prestige isn't anything, but i suppose happiness takes a backseat to Medical School.

I have a friend at St. Louis and I would suggest making that your first choice. I kind of feel like Northwestern is really a reach because you don't have any passionate EC's, this will hurt you! Becoming a doctor is possible even if you go to University of Illinois - Champaign Urbana...

I hope you the best luck and hope you realize things about prestige in regards to your life.

i dont have "passionate ecs" what do you mean. what about all the research stuff? i mean i know i want to become a doctor and i have done and worked on medical researches so is that good enough? what more are passionate ecs?

passionate ecs means you enjoy what you do and you do alot of a certain thing... i disagree when he says you don't have passionate ecs.. research i guess could count, however that is only one..

i seriously hope you realize that what you are doigng is sorta of a mistake, but hey you will get into college no doubt, especially after applying to 25 schools. best of luck to you!

Research is really all you have? What kind of research was it. Research can be great if you have gotten far in science fairs, or was published with a professor. These are examples of where research has gotten applicants far.

Other Examples of passionate extracirriculars:

Oh and being an international student is a disadvantage, but that is expected..

Going to State Championship as Captian of football team
Starting a scholarship for kids in uganda who have aids
Singing at Carnegie Hall

You get the idea, doesn't even need to be this stuff, but if you are supremely devoted to anything like community service (maybe you raised enough money to expand the library) or volunteered at a hospital 3 times a week to understand the medical process. These are examples of perserverance and devotion that ADCom's want and that Northwestern sort of expects.

Example: Last year our Salutarian (2nd in class) got rejected from Northwestern with good SAT, a 4.43 gpa, varsity wrestler, VP of NHS, this EC's aren't bad, but you don't have anything like this. This stuff is also very common and not exceptional, but remember he was rejected!

thanks a lot guys but can anyone focus on any chances that i might have on any combined medical programs. i have a lot of extracurricular stuff, some of which is quite uncommon, and i also would love to go to northwestern. i dont want to go to Saint louis. is loyola a viable option?
thanks again guys i really appreciate the feedback; please be sure to tell me something about northwestern

well, skyhawk, i have a lot of differnet extracurriculars, but most of them are from my indian high schools. i was voted MVP of my quiz team and debate team among other stuff. research is a big part though because it speaks a lot about my experiences inthe USA others of which are primarily math team, doctor shadowing and volunteer work. in research i have 2 experiences:
1. university of chicago hospitals: i worked with 2 professors where i was putting in different orders chronolofical transmutations in lung cancer. it wasnt a whole lot of work but i got 2 really well written letters of recommendation.
2. RIBS was the summer course. we worked like 40 hours a week. it was very research intensive and it was like a class. i got a B (in a full blown university of chicago class) and my final project was on the UV mutagenesis in e.coli agains a bacteria (nalidixic acid.)
3. research with a PhD at University of Illinois at Chicago. working on c-mat and paxillin cells and then analyzing gene and sequence mutations.
i hope this research experience is pretty uncommon. i mean i have letters of recommendation from all the three people and they are very good letters.
what do you think about my chances at northwestern now? any improvements? and yes this and more go on my CV which i send to every other university.

oh, about your saludictorian, why did he get rejected? any specific reasons? northwestern isnt really that hard to get into? what if i wrote magnificent essays? a very good friend of mine, got accepted to northwestern journalism and ill ask him to help me. he did not have superior SAT or ECs but i think he got in because of his essays.

just good luck man, you will get into college. you have good ECs too, i hope you have a life in college also lol. dont spend all ur time tryin to get that premed degree, thats not what the experience is for

thanks doctorsboy, but everybody goes to college. i mean its a basic thing now. i really wanna go to a good school. anyone else please evaluvate my northwestern chances, please come on...
do look at my extra curricular stuff and my grades and other 'fun' stuff
Thanks a lot

even with all the lab/research stuff, northwestern is definitely a reach.
