At my school, UVA deferred many ED applicants and then accepted them in RD. They also waitlisted many RD applicants. So I assume several will get off the waitlist. Am I only one who think UVA admission is really wacko?

that is weird

Call me crazy, but I'm missing what's weird about that. It's possible that they will accept some from the waitlist, but it's not a good chance. A very small percentage of waitlisted applicants actually are offered admission, and there are some other political waitlist reasons (e.g. if one of your parents is an alumni, you will practically never be flat out rejected, just waitlisted).

I don't think there is anything weird about that at all. And I think you are wrong to think they will take several off the waitlist simply because they accepted some deferrees. The waitlist is totally different than being deferred.

It's weird that UVA deferred a lot of ED applicants and then accepted them. Why cannot accept them in ED round? So then it will waitlist fewer applicants.

Not really, they defer them because they want to see how they match up with the RD applications.

exactly.......

all three people at my school who applied ed got deferred...and all three (including me) got in during rd...if you post HUGE numbers and send quality work (papers, awards etc.) then you can highten your chances of pulling yourself into a good situation during rd and have a great shot at getting in.
