Mark also broke a mug with Jack’s picture on it after Kate asked him to pick another mug because Jack was the only one to use it. He made fun of her and then started juggling it until he dropped it and it broke.
Oh man, that is so sad He is a jerk. Glad he got booted from the house.
Well…we now know definitively that Kevin slept with Madison and not someone else.
OMG, the ending. Kevin fulfills Jack’s dream for Rebecca. But what caused the Kevin -Randall rift?
I never imagined Kevin’s future house would be designed by his father, and built right by their original cabin.
A surprise plot twist that I actually love!
Yes, we’re more clueless than ever on what causes the Kevin-Randall split in the increasingly near future, since what everyone thought was going to cause it apparently didn’t. But maybe it will be something coming out of Randall’s therapy? That’s realistic. I have seen that happen a couple of times in my extended family.
Another nuance – When they had the flashforward to Rebecca (we think) dying in a hospital about 10 years from now, everyone noticed that Beth wasn’t there. But Beth was at Kevin’s house in the last scene last night. So she’s clearly alive and part of the family dynamic.
I was trying to remember the last flash forward and who exactly was there. I thought Kevin had a kid with him (around 10) but he got out of the car last night without a kid? Or was that baby Jack?
Great episode. I was glad that what happened to Kate was not worse. But too many commercials!
As to the divorce rate, clearly Randall and Beth have a good marriage. After seeing Toby with Jack last night I am hopeful he and Kate work things out at least for a while.
I know it’s television, but there is a part of me that wants to know why the adult kids weren’t ugly crying like I was when they played the cassette tape.
I thought it was a great episode. Random thoughts:
Marc juggling and breaking the mug was almost worse than locking her out of the house since I knew she could break a window and get back in but the mug is gone forever. He is the worst.
Jack the baby is so adorable but I’m a little taken out of the moment by thinking about them filming those scenes with him. Fun and frustrating I’m sure. I wonder if he’s twins like many tv babies.
As soon as Jack the man said about the glass on the house I knew that it would be Kevin’s house that we saw in the future scenes.
Loved Kevin’s comment “are you coming to kill me?” Good to laugh before the sadness of the tape.
And I know it’s television and this show is often details challenged but as adults they all live in LA except Randall who lives in Philly. And the cabin is somewhere a distance driving plus 20 miles from Pittsburgh. But they keep this remote cabin and keep it maintained – electricity, etc. – such that they can just drop in for the weekend?
Anyway, I think in the future Nicky, who does live somewhere in PA in the present, lives in the cabin while Kevin lives in the new house above.
Looking forward to the rest of the season.
Good episode!! Kate’s boyfriend was awful. I think for most of the choking scene with Toby and the baby the baby was a doll. In the final scene at the house Kevin came back with food for everyone. In the previous scene from that house we did see what appeared to be Kevin’s son. I am guessing the riff is because in therapy Randall comes to the conclusion that he has held the family together and Kevin and Kate disagree. @one+two I think you are right. I bet Nicky lives below.
Nicky lived near Bradford PA in his trailer I think when they first tried to find him.
That’s about 3 hrs NE of Pittsburgh.
So Kevin builds the house his dad wanted to build for his mom, and moves her back to PA, above the cabin?
And Kevin moves there too?
And everyone visits?
I thought in the one future scene where they all go to see Rebecca, baby Jack is a young adult. So that would be more than 10 years after the current time.
Didn’t the twins and Randall just have their 40th birthday? So Rebecca would be over 70 then, wasn’t she over 30 when she had the babies? So she is 90+ at the time of her death?
I think those are two different flash forwards. The one where Rebecca is in bed and presumably at the end of her life and they’re all visiting – the one we saw again at the end of last night – is about 10 years in the future (based on Kevin’s son, assuming he’s the same child his wife? is pregnant with at the 40th birthday gathering in the cabin). The flashforward where adult Jack is singing from the first episode this season I’m pretty sure is a seperate flashforward.??
We saw adult Jack earlier this season, with no indication of how far in the future that was, if I recall correctly.
At the end of last season, at Kevin’s house in the future (10 years maybe), someone said that Toby and Jack were on their way, but we didn’t see Jack.
Correct me if I’ve gotten this wrong.
Hmm, I remember the end of last season this way.
There is a school age boy in Kevin’s house, presumably his son.
Nick is at Rebecca’s bedside, not Miguel.
Toby spoke to Jack on the phone and reported ‘they’ were on their way, without indication of who was with Jack.
Tess is an adult with a job, so the timeframe puts it at least 10 years out, so maybe when the triplets are 50 and Rebecca is approaching 80. I cannot remember how much older Jack was than Rebecca but he was 36/37 when the triplets were born.
I can see the series ending with Rebecca’s death, but if that is when it happens it leaves a big gap until baby Jack is an adult with an expectant wife.
Man, this show.
I just went back and rewatched Season 3 - Episode 18 - Her
Really good to see this after last night’s episode. Tears are included, no extra charge.
I just loved the ending and that Kevin built the house. I don’t think Kate’s boyfriend dropped the mug by accident, I think he did it on purpose. He’s just that mean.
@powecropper, wow did you see Beth get a mug out of the cabinet and the “my dad is rad” mug with Randall’s picture on it!
I was thinking the same thing—how can these people afford to fly across the country with one-day’s notice? Multiple times a year?
I also don’t think this is the last time we’ll see Mark. I can’t imagine an abusive boyfriend would just fade off into the sunset after Mom kicks him out. He wouldn’t be able to stay away from Kate, would try to get her back, and/or would harm her in another way. Plus that would be a pretty anticlimactic end to this story line.
