So I filled out the Tulane VIP app about 3 weeks ago since it was free...but I have not even sent my ACT score yet. However, they just sent me a email about checking my admission status, I went there, and it says "You have been admitted, and we welcome you to the Tulane family.
You will soon receive a formal admission letter and invitations to special programs for admitted students."

Considering that Tulane has had major problems and eliminated several majors, kids probably are not lining up to apply and I'd have to think their yield is pretty low. It seems very possible.

ohhh....lol I just looked in the mail and saw the official envolope from them. My scores were on my transcript, which my school has sent already even though that's not directly from ACT/College board.

So for merit, they offered $24,000 anually as part of the presidential scholar honors program. And for need based scholarships I still need to submit the fafsa.

After Katrina and recent big scares this hurricane season, a lot of parents are reluctant to send their kids to New Orleans. Tulane also suffered significant direct Katrina-related losses from which its still recovering, and its student body dispersed post-Katrina and never fully came back. They're pretty desperate to attract students and dangling big merit and need-based FA awards in front of applicants they want. It's still a pretty decent school and it may be a good deal if you want to to take a chance on the weather.

How lax do you think Tulane is with application requirements? I really wanted to apply VIP but my parents don't want me to (they can't stand the thought of me moving all the way over to new orleans from the west coast, and yeah, the hurricanes scare them) and my counselor refuses to send an official school report/recommendation to them b/c he sees it as a "waste of time". ugh it's really frustrating, I read through the tulane viewbook and everything and I really like the school from what I've seen. And I've already sent them my Sept ACT scores with my 4 free reports. I'd really rather go to Tulane than my state safety school and would love the chance to apply.

Do you think if I finish filling out my app and send a leftover transcript i have (from applying to summer programs last year, so it doesn't have my junior year second-semester grades), they might make a decision on me even though my app would be technically "incomplete"? There's no other way I can apply seeing as how my parents AND school won't cooperate.

well I've always known Tulane was a decent school, so when I received that email it was a no brainer to apply since it was free. I don't really understand why your counselor refuses to send official school report(transcript), because they're REQUIRED to do so for the student...it's their job. I would try to talk to your school again, maybe someone different from your counselor. Or just call Tulane admissions/send an email and see what they can do.
