This may be cliche-Has any NM Commended student received a NM Corporate Scholarship?

Has any of the NM Commended students received any National Merit Corporate Scholarship through your parents' workplace? Do you need to be a semi-finalist at the minimum to qualify for the coveted corporate scholarship via NMSC? If so, why do I care if get commended or not. If the NM commendment has no value in terms of getting scholarships, shove it in the garbage. Please input your thoughts. I am not getting any direct answers from NMSC. They are using all kind of circumloctious replies to steer me away.

Yes, you may get corporate scholarships as a NM Commended. However, it’s up to the corporations that give out the scholarship to decide whether or not you qualify, not NMSC.

Hi Xr:

The corporate person in my Dad’s company told my Dad that, the NMSC sends out the list of people who they think is qualified to get the scholarship. Northrop has 50 scholarships awarded every year. Therefore, I am not sure what criteria they will use.

^Then I guess you can either call them and ask politely to find out, or just wait a few months and see what happens. Usually, if you qualify, the corporation will contact you through your school (or some other means, I have no idea). I have a friend who is NM Commended and who also qualified for a corporation scholarship at the company where her parents work. Good luck;)

My daughter received a corporate NM scholarship, not even commended, PSAT score in the 180’s(?) I think. The company has a fixed number to give out, and they just went down the list of the highest scores, apparently. Our family was not the only one whose child was not even commended and received the scholarship. It was a total surprise to me, as I had thought she would not qualify. The notification was very late, in December, and she had to write an essay and get the form back in a couple of days.

That is so consoling. I hope that I qualify with my commended status. We have already spoken with NSMC and Northrop people and they are aware of my application. I hope they do not reject me since my Dad pestered them. LOL! Thanks all of you. You are the best
