My stupid english teacher took a planner check worth 50 points as a test grade. I have my own system, PDA, I showed him/her and he said that it was against his system.

God save me. God=prep school

God save me. God=prep school

Did he ever mention before that he would make planner tests?

No... 10char

Sigh. My child had to deal with this mostly in middle school. You could try going over his head, but it is not very likely to do much good.
I feel your pain! About the best I can say is that it won't always be like this.

That brings my down to a "C" average now... I won't be getting into prep school, let alone, Harvard with that haha.

But thanks for the support.

Hello? Admissions already has your grades! You'll be dandy. For now, haha.
This hasn't happened to me (for two reason- I use my planner, and we don't do planner checks) but I know it sucks because we have stupid, arbitrary rules. I say, weather through it, bring your grade back up, and talk to someone who can override that authority- principal, guidance counselor, etc?

OMG!! That happened to me earlier this year!!! I used a PDA all through 7th grade, and none of my teachers objected, and now ALL of my teachers make me write stuff down in this stupid agenda that the school give you!!!!!!! GRRRRR!!!!! I HATE it. And it's like worth "points" and it totally brought my grade down too. I just use both now, even though it takes longer.

Are grades not supposed to determine how smart one is?

According to my grade I'm pretty stupid because I chose to write things on a PDA instead of some schools issued planner.

It was the principal who issued this...

BTW you guys don't get how bad a C is in my school... Getting an A means nothing (80%)... I can get a C with a 60 average. :(

This is the problem with public school... Public School wants you to be successful and excel, but only if you follow their "plan" "exactly perfectly 100% correct". Public School tells you what you can do, and how you are going to do it. Using your example, Public School tells you how to be organized. Another example would be how Public Schools in general do not make comprises regarding the courses a student take. Even if a student is capable of taking certain class, or capable of finishing a certain class in less than a school year, etc., Public School (in general) will not allow you to take said class unless you have followed their sequence EXACTLY. This has always REALLY bugged me. I hate being told what I can and can't do, and when I can and can't do it.

that is NOT just a public school problem. at my current private school they are SSSOOOOOO over protective! its not even funny.

Suburbanobsurd: OMG that is so true. I wanted to skip Pre-Algebra in 6th grade, and they wouldn't let me!!! And it wasn't even like a useful class, all we did was color!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alright guys, I'm sorry but I have to disagree with most-all of you.

Viola- There is no way I can possibly believe that he never told you to use his way of recording/planning. If a teachers asks you/tells you to do something that is easy and simple... just do it. You shouldn't be looking at it is a chore to do it his way... look at it as a free 100 on a 50 point test. When he makes such a large grade so easy to make, there really isn't any excuse for not doing what he asks.

Thingslost and Suburbanobsuder- On the subject of not getting to take the classes you want. You really come off as whiney. Why should a school which is publicly funded worry more about one kid over another? As far as the "all we did was color!!!", um really? Are you sure that's not just a slight exaggeration?

"I hate being told what I can and can't do, and when I can and can't do it."
Don't we all. But are they really such an evil establishment for telling a 14 year old what to do? I come from a private school where you can get demerits (come to school on saturday for 1 hour per demerit) for not calling a teacher sir. or "Mam" and my teacher do exactly what they want to do and quiz us on anything they want to. Is this the right way to teach? Maybe. I'm not sure whether we learn more as a result, but one thing we definitely don't do is whine like a baby when someone tells us to do something.

In summation, teachers have chosen to make it their life's work to teach kids like you. If they ask you to record your homework a certain way or want you to take a certain course, the least you can do is afford them a relatively tiny amount of respect by not whining about every little thing.

As I always seem to have to do at the end of my posts- sorry for the rant and sorry if I offended anyone, I just wanted to share another perspective, not offend anyone.

umm the schools will see this if he gets in because they see spring term grades (unless I'm mistaken)

Umm.. This is the whining thread. DUH! That's why it was started.

I guess it's still math, but it's just a bunch triangles that we had to color. And then tape onto a poster board. And then color the poster board. We didn't have any tests. Or homework.

"I hate being told what I can and can't do, and when I can and can't do it." I actually agree with you, but seriously dude. CHILL.

He may have told her about his way of recording/planning, but come on! She's obviously been having a bad day, and now, instead of sympathizing, you just tell her that it's her fault. Even if it IS her fault, nobody needs your negativity. Viola just needs to feel better.

I know you don't try to offend people, but you usually do.

That's true, and I'm sorry for it.

:) Thats okay. :)

You're totally correct, and I'm sure that Viola already knows. Thanks for the honesty though. Now, let's think of ways to cheer her up.

1) ICE CREAM
2) CAKE
3) ICE CREAM-CAKE

4.) Acceptance letters
5.) cheesecake
6.) CHEESE

7) popcorn

Thingslost- I am chill no worries. This topic just brings back some frustration earlier in the year when my school wouldn't allow me to take a higher math class (which I qualified for) from CTY.

istoleyournose-Is there a difference between ranting and whining? Either way, I didn't mean to come off like I was whining. I just attempted to point out the hypocrisy of some public schools. With that said I do enjoy going to public highschool OVERALL.I would just rather be at a boarding school.

Lets all chill. Or not. Someone start a thread about how ridiculous Valentine's Day is .

Suburbanobsurd: I was talking to istoleyournose, but it's nice to know that you're "chill". :P
