this year's PSAT ********

I hate it how they recentered the writing curve. What a BUNCH of ********. I should've had around a 222, instead of my 216, meaning I would automatically be NMSF in TX, instead of having to wait till September for the cutoff score.

Hi, Predator,

what did you mean "they re-centered the writing curve" Please give more detailed explanation.

<a href="http://collegeboard.com/student/testing/psat/scores.html#writing%5B/url%5D">http://collegeboard.com/student/testing/psat/scores.html#writing</a></p>

but it's not like it's just you going down... everyone probably went down. and they said it's probably 3-4 points which isn't as big of a difference as your 6...

So I'm guessing the semifinalist cutoff should go down 3 points...

Thanks a lot, Predator for your info. Hopefully, the NMSF cutoff could low 1 point to 216 for Texas juniors.

Yes, WATTOGO88, I am also hoping that. The reason I said 222 was because I last year, I missed 5 and skipped 3 and gota 69 in W, but this year I only missed 4 and got a 69 again.

Predator, My dd had a 75 in writing in 2004, a 76 in writing in 2005, and this year as a junior made a 71 in writing. Sucks, but overall she made a 222, and we also live in Texas. I would not be surprised to see the cutoff drop a point.Good luck.

How was your daughter able to take the test 3 years in a row? Our school doesn't allow freshman to take PSAT.

A lot of schools allow freshmans to take PSAT.

in my high school, it is required that freshmen and sophomores take the test (as a practice) while the juniors take it for real. seniors, however, get to sleep in and are served a FABULOUS breakfast ;D

Actually my dd took it the first time as an 8th grader. She attends a small christian school with many advantages and disadvantages. Her graduation class is going to be 7 in all. Being able to take the psat early was one of the advantages. She was recognized after the 7th grade Duke talent competition, and we just felt the more practice the better. My oldest son was a commended student, so we learned out about the importance of the psat early. He was the first in a school that was only 5 years old at the time to be recognized after taking the psat.

In our school(s), students can take the PSAT in 8th grade if they pay $10. At 9th grade, the AP type kids take it along with anyone else who asks to do so. All 10th graders take it. Of course, all Juniors take it too.

Anybody know this year PSAT 211 is 99% or 98%?

Here's a link to the 2006 Selection Index percentiles:
<a href="http://www.collegeboard.com/prod_downloads/counselors/psat/selection-index_2006.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://www.collegeboard.com/prod_downloads/counselors/psat/selection-index_2006.pdf</a></p>

Our school hasn't given the students their PSAT results yet. Apparently, there's a problem with the tests. We're getting a little worried.

Anyone been through that before? We should have had those results weeks ago.

thanks a lot, JiffsMom

I would have got a 240 in the past. I'm not complaining though. Sorry about the people for whom this means semifinalist or commended student. For your sake I do hope they lower that cutoff.

So it would seem with the psat 2006 99th percentile ending at 212 and I read in another thread (have not verified this) that psat 2005 the lowest 99th percentile was 215 that you might have a lower score to qualify commended etc. I know ymmv in each state. This would seem to be explained by the lower writing section.

I guess the cut-off will go down 3 points then. Not bad.

Hi, proudparentof4 & everyone in this thread, where can we find the PSAT percentile for 2005? Is it really 99% of PSAT was 215 for 2005. Can we find it in the past NMSF website or any offical ways?
