I'm wondering what you all, a cross-section of arguably the most competitive (as in qualified) seniors in the world vying for the most prestigious universities, deem to be this year's most impressive extracurriculars, awards, titles, etc. Post what you think is your top EC or award, or your friend's, or the kid's in the next school district. Let's see what we're up against - or rather, who our peers will be next year, with whom we will be interacting and studying, from whom we will be learning for the next four years.

My best EC is 7 years of Drama: I'm on show #18 right now (it's in three days and we didn't rehearse today! I'm sure it will be great!). Obviously, I'm on the lower end of the EC spectrum.

As for the most impressive EC I'm aware of: I dunno, my school had pretty bland ECs. I know my class president is both Class Prez and the captain of the Wrestling team (which means his speech will be a 15 minute diatribe about wrestling), but that's pretty much the best combination my school can offer.

Well, except for the girl in my French class who's been in around 30-odd theatrical productions. But she's going to NYU (Tisch!) for Musical Theatre, so no shock there.

MUN awards from prestigious conferences in several cases.

Three years on the Academic Decathlon team.

Three state and one national record in a second tier sport.

Music: I've been the head drum major of my 200+ member marching band for the past two years. I had to attend leadership and band camps during the summer to excel my training. I've been the President (trustee year before) on my band council board. I've been in jazz band since 7th grade, I've made the regional All-Northwest and All-State honor jazz bands two consecutive years running. I play bass trombone in a college big band. I play as a soloist in my jazz combo, where we've played a variety of performances. I've performed, recorded, and played with a variety of local and national jazz pros. I took 8 years of private piano lessons, and about 3 years of private low brass instruction. I also have been playing piano/keys at my church in the Youth ministry and have helped lead worship services, gospel meetings, and church conferences. As a classical player, I led and directed a tuba quartet my junior year at an ensemble contest. This year, I led and directed a trombone quartet, and performed a bass trombone solo. I had superior ratings for each performance, and received a 2nd alternate to state, 1st alternate to state, and 2nd alternate to state respectively.

I developed the theory of relativity.

These are two seperate ECs, but both are original...

I started an Organization/Project that works with corporations and local donors and gets brand new running shoes and donates them to low income High Schools so that student athletes who are unfortunate can have new running shoes and can run without hurting their feet. Named it "Share the Sole." So far, 150 pairs have been distributed through out the Metro Area.

In conjunction with the Harambee Centre in Portland, Oregon, students and faculty at Southridge High School formed a sister school relationship with the St. Andrews Senior Secondary School in Uganda. As Co-President of the Matale Sister School Club, we successfully planned a 24-hour fast on February 1st, in which 425 students participated. We raised more than $16,000, all of which will go towards the construction of a science lab for the St. Andrews Secondary School, along with science equipment and textbooks.
