I’m not trying to steal any ideas or anything HONESTLY, but what were/are your ideas for the essays?..esp. how the courses of study & characteristics of penn match you

Well, I wrote that I wanted to pursue a career in the adult entertainment industry, and that Penn's film studies program combined with their student body would prepare me quite well.

ignore giggity, he or she is a troll

Giggity, you are, needless to say, a risk taker. (lol)

Looking123,

I plan on writing about how life was growing up in my communtiy, being black, and attending a disadvantaged high school and ending up actually being able to become a "somebody" through constant work, while underneath the watchful, almost annoying, eye of my mother while she worked at my school. (Note: never let your parents work at your school, no matter how much you may "get along." lol)

I'm a short story writer, so hopefully some things that I've learned from writing will help me craft an imaginatively informative, thought-provoking, and honest essay.

(I'm such a dork, I'm actually excited about writing these essays...lol...there are so many directions, and images that one can use to create a detailed and lively picture in the minds of the admissions officers.)

---best of luck to all---

As far as the how you relate to the course you are thinking about taking when applying to the school, I would suggest doing the "typical" with a moderate to heavy twist.

Like most readers, Admissions officers don't like things that are predictable, bland, dull and well, boring. By writing an essay that can keep them on their toes the entire time will surely throw them for a loop. The bigger the loop, the better. Just try not to let any 'white lies' slip in though.

Remeber, this is the only time that you can 'bedazzle' the officers with something totally unique that its something that you composed- drafted- and created; take advantage of it by showing your most interesting, odd, wierd and most provoking aspects to catch to officers attention....THATS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING!!!

what is the "typical" ? robertson06, is that the autobiography one?

Giggity, troll or not...interesting topic lol

yep, the most over used topic of the century. I don't think, and I may be wrong, that its interesting reading about a person's life event by event, regardless of the story being told. Besides, thats why they invented the resume. I think that its much more entising to read about; brief introductions to a person's history, then an essay on what that history means and how it affects the person now and will in the future. Subtle...yet gaping difference. The more in depth the essay, the more I get to know the character within the essay, the more likely I'll want to meet the character in person. I hope this is making some sort of sense.

--best of luck--

Thanks robersont....i dont know if it's just me but the very short essay question that asked about the professor, are we expected to have already known a professor at UPenn? (I haven't checked yet but I'm guessing there's a directory on the website but still...) I'm not complaining..just wondering

Has anyone tried to apply online? There doesn't seem to be a link

"If you admit me, I'll make all your wildest dreams come true."

honestly, I have no idea right now, but that gives me another excuse to do some research.

I've been researching that essay topic since I was 12

are you 12 right now?

looking123-yeah i have that same problem-i dont really know any professors there whom i could put under that name-how are you going around that approach?

Well, I just looked in the department I'd like to study in and found a professor and researched their background to see what kind of work they did and voila. It didn't take me very long though.

...by being very distracted and "forgetting" about it lol, i'm pretty much going to follow Mr_Socrates06's approach, I couldn't even find a name in the viewbook for the college...there were names for Wharton though
