Those of you that are retaking 2200+....

I am not critical or anything, but what is your reasoning? I am in a similar situation myself...

purely ego

I have a 2230 and was thinking about it, but there's really no reason to. Not much else to do is my reasoning, I only need to write one more essay and give my recommendation forms to my teachers and I'm done.

Um, okay, I haven't gotten a 2200+ yet, but IF I did, I would want to retake it if I got like 750+ on two sections and less than 700 on the third... which is more than possible for me right now :/.

I got a 2250 with an 800 cr, 770 writing and a 680 math and I'm sure as **** not taking it again. I'm applying as an english major, math is clearly not my main focus, and I don't feel like wasting the time to get my math up by like 20 points, rather take a few more SAT 2's so I have them all over 750.

I think the prominent reason that most people retake when they have such a high score is because they have good scores on two sections but the other one needs improvement. Myself, for instance, I have 800, 790, 690. I wouldn't try to improve on the first two, that would be ridiculous, or even maybe the total score. I would just retake (Not that I'm actually retaking) to improve the one lower (notice how I didn't say bad, don't yell at me :)) score so the whole combined best scores go up.

That's just my two cents.

:)

what abt 800m/740r/680w?

I think the choice of whether you want to retake should be decided by where you are and what your target score is. Like, I might just not retake cause I'm not really planning to major in English.

:)

I would probalby retake if I had anything below a 650, however, a 680 math is fine with me since I'm going to be an english major anyway, so I'm leaving my score as is and focusing on other things.

I had a 2230 and I retook. Now i have a 2300, still not my best, but i'm not retaking now.

The only reason for retaking is the same reason ANYONE retakes - because you know you can do better.

I just want 700+ on CR and 750+ on M and W with an 800 on at least one of them.

Then I'll sleep peacefully.

(The 800 is purely for ego :P)

The sad thing is that 700 is going to take some work. And I'm not willing to do that.

I really hope my apathy doesn't kick my behind in a year.

Personally, though, I would care least about the writing section because most schools are going to be reluctant to use it beyond comparing one kid's score to another's.

I've got a 2200 (M 790, W 770 and CR 640!!??) I'm first finishing off Sat 2 and then I might think about retaking. btw, only the best of 3 is taken right? (i mean if u retake)

Look, only retake if your absolutly sure that you can improve, and if you just wanna try your luck, then its not worth it coz u've got a very high score anyways.

I am retaking a 2280 (770 M/CR, 740 WR- 80 MC but 7 essay), primarily to not do so crappily on the essay, but also to get 800 on math. My highest practice test so far was 2380 (March 05 one), so now I am shooting for that elusive 2400.

Nothing is as satisfying as a 2400 . . . but it does relatively little for your resume these days. My friends with 1600s are still crying . ..

2400 is definitely harder to achieve than the old 1600.

I retook a 2250 with two very high sections (790 Math, 790 Writing) and one low section (670 Critical Reading) in order to improve CR.

I actually got a much lower composite of 2160. However, the breakdown was 720 CR, 800 Math, 640 Writing, making my highest combined 800 Math, 790 Writing, 720 Critical Reading, 2310.

I got 740 M, 740 CR, 710 W...

In math, I made two very careless errors to get the 740 (I'd gotten two 80s on the PSATs, so I'm shooting for an 800 here).
In the CR...I'm very happy. Not aiming for higher here.
In writing, I got a 74 in the MC with only 2 wrong, but an 8 essay. I didn't write a whole lot for the essay, so this time I'll write more. I got a 77 on the PSAT, so I'm hoping for more.
My goals-
800 Math, 750 Writing, god knows what on CR because I'm happy with my 740. I think I was so focused on CR that I got careless with math, so hopefully I'll improve. There's my logic.

I got a 2220, 740 on all 3 sections...

so I don't need to worry about improving any one section. I'm done with the SAT. Once is enough for me.
