Hey guys, I was lucky enough to be admitted into Revelle College for this upcoming fall. Are there any current students who could give their thoughts on Revelle? I know the GE requirements are a lot and there is a long string of writing courses. Overall, would you consider the GE requirements hard? Do they take a lot of time out of your free time, and is it really hard to maintain good grades compared to the other colleges? How's the housing and the social atmosphere? Sorry, I know it's a lot of questions, but any answer to any question would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

My friend who goes to UCSD, says that Revelle has the hardest pre-reqs/ GE requirements compared to the other colleges.

If that helps at all, I got into MUIR (1st choice, I hate GE’s)!

Thanks for the advice! Bump!

Unfortunately I can’t say too much about the social scene for the housing at Revelle since I never lived there. But in regards to the academics I can definitely provide some input. Unfortunately on average from UCSD graduate statistics, students who went to Revelle took 1-1.5 quarters longer on average to graduate than students from all of the other 5 colleges. The GE requirements at Revelle by far are the worst. Of course that doesn’t mean your college experience at UCSD will collapse on itself, just telling you that the GEs will be an annoyance in terms of the sheer amount of how many Revelle requires. Now in terms of grades from the GEs, I think you’ll be okay. Every college has their own string of writing/humanities GEs that are difficult. Some are more time consuming than others and it also depends heavily on your professor/TAs.

Overall though I’d say they do take up a lot of time but no more than a typical core class in your own respective major. Generally speaking the reason why people complain so much is that they never wanted to take the GE in the first place so although their own major courses take up more time - they see any time consumed by GEs as wasted. If you simply just see GEs as something every student has to go through and apart of the requirements to graduate - it won’t be too bad. Good luck and best wishes at UCSD!

Thanks for the advice! I’m planning to go on to either medical or dental school so I need to keep my GPA up. Are the GEs at Revelle simply many and tedious, or are they more difficult than the GEs at other colleges as well? I’m currently deciding between UCSD bio and UCD bio.
