High everyone,

I just got my Housing assignment today and found out that I am in Ashton. I did some reading around and found out that Ashton is stereotypically anti-social and I'm not an anti-social guy. I'm looking to have fun at IU and I'm a little worried that being in Ashton might take away from that experience. What do you guys think? Am I overreacting or is Ashton really that anti-social.

Thanks,
Nick

My assignment is for ashton as well. I don’t think it will be as bad as you are thinking. Yes, there will probably be some people who are quieter or more anti-social, but I feel that this could be said of many dorms. I bet as long as you go in with an open mind and are friendly to people that it will be just fine.

Did you request a single? Anyways, I know a good deal about Ashton. There are people who are private of course because they wanted a single. However most people will want to get out and socialize with their floor because of the lack of roommate. The guys floor I knew of in Ashton was pretty tight knit. I wouldn’t call them anti social at all. As long as you get out and get involved you’ll have no problems wherever you’re put.

I’d gladly trade you. I was hoping for Ashton, but I got Wright.

Just checked, was assigned to Ashton too, Residence Scholars LC. Just what I wanted (:

Though, anyone know how the separation of genders works (if there is any)? Wings, every other floor, none at all…?

Ashton Johnston (Johnston houses Ashton’s residence scholars) has been one sex per floor each of the past four years. Men in “basement” and first floor; women on floors two and three. Except that 2011-12 women also had the “basement,” which is only about ten rooms. Located on the corner of Tenth and Sunrise; if you have a car, you can park right across Tenth Street with a D5 permit.

Oh, thank you!
I don’t have a car nor do I plan to get one, but I plan on getting a bike.

I’m a current student at Indiana University and a resident of Ashton, Johnston (Res Scholars) As for the social life there are some people who keep to themselves, but my floor had a good group of guys who were quite social. In general your social life is doing to depend on how involved you get, do that early and you should be fine wherever you are.

As for Johnston’s gender assignments next year:
Ground Floor: Female
First Floor: Male
Second Floor: Coed
Third Floor: Female
