Hey guys,

I'm going to be a second year Biological Sciences major in CALS this coming semester and I was thinking the other day that if I was already planning in minoring in Business, how hard would it be just to do a double major? Do you think it would be realistic to do so if I plan on doing pre-med? Even though this is my goal, I feel like having a double major in Business would allow me to have something to fall back on in case the pre-med track doesn't work out well. I've come out of high school with a good amount of AP credits and a few of those courses fulfill some of the minor requirements for AEM.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

It should be very do-able. I was working on an AEM minor when I realized I had a lot of extra available time in my schedule, and I actually mapped out a way to complete the AEM major starting from the beginning of my junior year. I was also a bio major (though not pre-med) and I had plenty of APs. There are great advisers there who can help you plan something like that out.
One thing to keep in mind is that you need to apply and be accepted to the major. The advisers can help you determine the best way for you to do that also. If you have decent grades so far (which I hope would be the case in terms of pre-med) and also you already demonstrate interest in AEM through the minor, I believe you would have a very solid chance. I suppose it would be not be the best thing to say you are taking it as a back-up plan, but you could definitely point out how a business education would be beneficial for an MD and how you could use your skills in the future.
In terms of workload, based on my experience that should not be any issue at all.
