Thoughts on Course Selection? HELP!

Hey everyone,

So I am really stuck in a situation and I'm not sure what to choose. Please help! Which one is more advantageous to college admissions? There's two options:

1) take 6 AP's (Spanish, Chem, Comp Sci, Lit, Gov, Calc BC) in addition to Orchestra class. Orchestra in our school is an elective, and actually lowers your gpa. However, I'm a pretty advanced level cellist and being in orchestra would allow me to participate in many regional and state music festivals.
pros: shows dedication to an activity, allows for me to participate in competitions/festivals
cons: kills my gpa, threatens class rank

2) Take 7 AP's (Spanish, Chem, Comp Sci, Lit, Gov, Calc BC, Statistics) and drop orchestra class. This would be beneficial because I would have 13 Ap's total over the course of my entire high school education.
Pros: Allows me to take as many AP's as I could possibly take, improves my gpa/raises class rank (I'm in the top 10% but this would possibly put me in the top 4-6%)
Cons: shows that I'm not too committed to orchestra, possibly too much workload, etc

One thing to note is that by being in orchestra, most regional festivals occur in the spring. Thus, college applications would be over and those festivals would not really make a difference on my college application.
Please try not to give me too much hate for worrying about what's best for admissions. It's a topic that probably all juniors are stressing about right now and I just want to make the best choice. Thanks for showing me love CC!

bump…really could use some good advice from you CC’ers on this.

Do the 1st one and self study stats because it’s an easy self study.

you are going to get @#$%ed if you do the 2nd one

Why does everyone title these scheduling threads like it’s the end of the world?

But anyway, since I ventured over here to see what all the shouting was about, I don’t think you should worry about the number of APs. Tacking on AP stats is not going to be incredibly beneficial if you aren’t actually interested in taking the course. If you have a passion for orchestra, then stick with it. It’s not that impressive if you’re loading on APs just for the sake of having a ton of APs instead of focusing on your interests.

Do the first one.

The the first one if you enjoy orchestra. It’s better to have fun

Do option number one.

Stick with orchestra. Colleges recalculate your GPA when they look at your classes anyway. Don’t give up your passion!

Sincerely, a cellist :)

Yeah, do the 1st. I want to drop Wind Ensemble, but, on the other hand, I despise Wind Ensemble. XD
Jazz is where it’s at.

haha pretty surprised since I’ve always thought of the CC community as a very academics-oriented one. Unfortunately, our school doesn’t let us self-study, which is super annoying. Hopefully my gpa/rank won’t suffer from option 1! thanks so much everyone for the input!
