She organized a nationally recognized drive for the children of lost firefighters who were victims of the terrorist attack in NYC.

She was a international exchange student in the Baltic Sea.

She is a lacrosse player (okay) and cross country runner (okay)

We are Hispanic. She is a flamenco dancer and performs at events.

She dreams of doing International Policy and focusing on Russia.
She plans on going to law school and is considering a Rotary placement in Russia for year.

Here are my questions.

She must get a full ride at any of these colleges in order to attend. Any ideas? SHe has applied for ROTC scholarships.

Does she have a chance to get in?
Any other colleges you would rec for her to look at?

Proud mom..but $ concerned.

A free ride at Harvard, Yale, Columbia and Georgetown will have to be based on financial need. You can find out a general sense of what your expected family contribution(EFC) will be on several different college and college guide websites. Again this will give you a ballpark figure of what you would be expected to pay should your D be accepted to a school which provides 100% of financial need. If she attends the Naval Academy she will have all her tuition and housing expenses paid and receive a monthly stipend but she should be very sure that she wants to attend a military academy plus she must go through a number of steps to be nominated and apply. American U, and to a lesser extent, JHU, are the best bets for a free ride in terms of tuition and maybe housing. Chances for anyone at the Ivies are iffy but she could be seen as an attractive minority candidate. Good chance at Georgetown and very good at American and JHU.

A great chance at Georgetown, and the Hoya Battalion has a very strong SROTC component. Hope to see your daughter at the Hilltop next year.

She should be a good candidate for Presidential Scholar at American - full tuition 4 yrs.

How does one find out about minority outreach programs for high achievers?

Gates foundation is one of the largest sources of scholarships for low income minority students
