Thoughts

Hey folks - This is a bit personal, but it will give me a good idea as far as my odds of getting into a T14.

In undergrad I was the victim of sexual assault, compounded by the need to have surgery on my shoulder in the middle of a semester. My GPA is about 3.35m and my LSAT is 174. I have a recommendation coming from a LT. with the state police (professor in cybercrime), as well as a Sr Manager at a big four consulting firm that I have been at for a few years that will speak very highly, but I am concerned about my GPA (Obviously) and know that I am capable then that, but had to deal with unfortunate situations listed above.

How much do things like that really matter?

The general rule of thumb is that things like work experience and recs really only come into play if you meet the minimum criteria for numbers. That said, while your GPA is certainly low for T14 schools, the LSAT is very competitive. Just by quickly glancing at LawSchoolNumbers, it looks like you'd have a decent shot at Georgetown and maybe some other lower T14 schools. Anything in the top half dozen schools or so are probably unrealistic, though.

There is nothing more frusturating then knowing your not going to get into the school of your dreams because of somethings just not in your control - a part of life i suppose.
