Thread for BS/MD BS/DO 2021-2022

Thank you @carmaruti

Pitt GAP attrition is actually quite low.
Maintaining a 3.8 GPA is very doable at Pitt.

Replied to your DM

Mich medicine takes about 30% of its incoming class from its undergrad.
Of course, this includes gap year students.
Plus it is in-state.

UMiamiā€™s program is only advisory - not an EAP or BS/MD.

@Ram211

Not sure if this is a new requirement for NJMS, but what happens if he does not get 514 does he lose his NJMS confirmed seat.
Look read my prior comments on this forum, my D had terrible experience with NJMS interview, had she got in I would have seriously considered not to send her as she also got into BSMD at Hofstra, I understand lure of saving some.money but in your case itā€™s no brianer other 2 schools are much better and your C will have a great experience

(*Exact verbiage: Take the MCAT seriously as your first medical school requirement. While there is no minimum score, the expectation is that students will score in the 90th percentile (MCAT score of 514 or above as of 2022).

Congratulations. IMO, Hofstra - BSMD is good program and generally offer good scholarship. Since my c accepted in tier 1 ( Harvard/Sanford)college, I have to make tough decision between tier1 traditional path vs BSMD!

Try negotiating with Case and most likely they will give more. Nothing to lose by faking.

Good :slightly_smiling_face: I never said there is only one answer like the member I usually spar with. Also, itā€™s very hard to give advice without knowing the studentā€™s strengths and weaknesses. Not all high schools are same, not all ECs are same and no one knows what schools look for.

My D and I still have a tough time getting in touch with anyone at NJMS to hope for a visit. This school is in the lowest ranking of our choices as of now because 1) bad interview communications (tell students to dial in 2 hours earlier than the interview time after asking them to confirm an interview time), 2) D called in 2 hours ahead of the interview time just to check the ID and dropped off after 5 minsā€¦, 3) We worry if the interface of the school (admissions) is this bad, what she is going to have to deal with when she is there? I believe leadership come from the top and C employers hire C employeesā€¦ a lot of red flags so farā€¦

My D has been frustrated with trying to get info about this school/program because there is no contact info for NJMS (except what is on the web with bz phone signal or no response). Another red flag for meā€¦ my daughter almost always communicates with the schools herself and having her asking me to do it for herā€¦ ???

The bottom line, this is school is cheap, match list is OK, but it hasnā€™t passed the sniff testā€¦ yet! I will keep you posted if anyone will respond to our e-mails or vmā€™s.

Hello, where did you get accepted in regards to BS/MD programs?

Thank you very much

Thank you , will do but still one year extra , more reasonable choices is btwn Penn state vs TCNJ

Again, donā€™t go by one year extra. Case is better school.

IMO, between TCNJ/NJMS vs Penn State/SKMC vs CASE, if finance is harder then go with TCNJ/NJMS route. Match list wise I think all 3 options are great. Just residency match surgery alone PSU - 28, NJMS - 25, CWRU - 27 matches for different years (2021/2022). In terms of DOPEN matches, these choices are very close for the year 2020, for the year 2021 CASE has a lead (15.9%, NJMS 10.7%, PSU 9.9%). CASE will have more advantages compared to other choices for research opportunities.
For the CASE option, IMO, you can appeal for more financial aid for college, you can call CASEā€™s financial aid office to ask about the appeal process. Identify the special circumstances that affect your ability to pay for CASE. Write an appeal letter, and provide substantial evidence if they ask to justify your case. Keep your fingers crossed.
Good luck.

@gradedu
Did they mention any contact(s) in the NJMS offer letter/email?

(Not paid by anyoneā€¦ to be clear)

Personally, I can sayā€¦ Hofstra dean wrote an amazing personal letter in my D acceptance quoting her essay (and admission team email/communication) REMS admission took time to answer questionsā€¦ and Dr.Ripa (SUNY) out of the way to alleviate every questions so quickly.

I would be happy with those kinds of response that too when my kid is going OOS (for 8 years) as they will have ā€œsome issuesā€ (God forbid) and i want someone to care/listen.

Just my thought of thinking :pray:

Acceptance was sent by feeder school, not NJMS. If you decide to enroll to the feeder school, you will receive a formal official acceptance letter to the program from Rutgers University. We are trying to get the contact from feeder school to provide us a belly button at NJMS. Thanks.

The primary concern I have with UPitt is that they are forcing their combined program students to achieve 3.8 and that creates a eat or be eaten type of environment unless people who went there can tell us otherwise.

I get a similar vibe from WashU but they accept a lot fewer students (?).

I am always impressed by Case match list every year but someone once told me they also merge Cleveland clinic so I am never sure. Cleveland requires a year of research so we should expect good list from them.
