Application on hold and interview space not available now:
Upstate interviews 10 students for each feeder school that has 5 seats. they also keep a smaller number beyond the 10 where they are interested in the students but they did not make it to the initial 10.
If any of the 10 students decline an interview (it can happen for example someone gets in Penn/Jefferson and is no longer interested in Upstate or got into a college as an ED applicant), they then conisder these candiates on hold.
This is the case of so near yet so far! -
Interview dates: If you are given options for interview slots, it does NOT matter which date you choose.

Penn Stateās HERSEY is a good medical college.
Wilkes is an average undergrad college.
This program has a rural focus and expects you to join primary care.
The application process is drawn out with 3 interviews.
Isnt it rolling admissions though. So, if one has interview earlier, they recoeve decision earlier?
Yes, that is true.
You will have 2 weeks to accept the medical school offer form Upstate.
But the interview process is designed to give every interviewed candidate their fair chance.
Got it. I just thought that since 10 are interviewed like you described in above post, and lets say 9 interview on first date, and someone interviews on last date, then the person who interviews last will be at a disadvantage? Or is this not the case?
What makes you think all 10 from the same feeder school will be given the option to select from the same dates?
Does anyone know what the first interview date is for Upstate?
Iām scheduled for Jan 10th, but Iām curious to see if there was an earlier date that got filled up.
Hey, current SMED here. I think they are planning three sessions this year, with the last one in late January. Calls go out in small batches, so it is difficult to tell how many they have already called. Mine came early-mid January last year. Essentially, until January has passed do not lose hope for an interview call.

only two weeks? what happens if we are waiting to hear back from other programs?
if you are in a 7 yr bs/ba/md, how often are you able to take a gap year between the ug and md portion? just to explore other interest or travel abroad.

Reg. SUNY Upstate:
It may appear that upstate is providing choice to pick your interview dates for the 3 schedules one each in Jan/Feb/March. But from preveious 2 cycles experience, Upstate has provided only one interview date to each applicant, no choice to choose among the three dates.
For 2020-21: Jan 6th, Feb 15th and Mar 8th.
For 2019-20: Jan 27th, Feb 10th and Mar 2nd.
Results will be out within 2-4 weeks after each interview, normally end of 3rd week.
They may send additional invites (from the hold-off pool) if someone decides not to attend the interview (or do not accept the admission offer) from earlier dates. Hard to count on it, but happened before as one or two got late schedules for March date.

This current group is for BS/MD questions and is the official CC group for BS/MD applicants.

This depends on the program - some programs allow and hold your seat.
Some donāt.
Check with the program you finally matriculate into.
Upstate Medical School claims they are not bound by the May 1 date as they are a graduate program.
If you get it, accept it.
Nobody knows the future - secure the seat.
Cross the bridge of multiple acceptances once you are in that position.
Remember - they have a waitlist - no seat will go unfilled.
