Upstate Med has reduced the numberof feeder schools to 6, but have kept otther 4 of the original feeders as EA programs where you can apply early while in undergrad.
Do you know why they reduced the number of feeders?
Also, Iāve heard the program has in-state preference. Is that correct?
I guess the reps at the college fair should provide prospective students with accurate info instead of trying to scare them away.
Do shadowing/volunteering/interning hours matter for colleges? If so, where can I submit a list of hours? Which schools require submission of hours? I have nearly 750+ hours of shadowing/healthcare volunteering/clinical-setting hoursā¦
You can list your activities/ hours in the Common App Activity section.
How do rolling admissions work for BS/MD track? If Penn State or Rutgers are rolling admissions for undergrad, does that mean that a student needs to apply early for a first come first serve basis for undergrad and then apply for BS/MD ? Questions for ex. like Rutgers/PSU/SBU-GWU
How about the colleges where they are rolling decisions and there is one application altogether for the program which means during UG application the student marks the checkbox for BS/MD and then immediately gets a prompt to fill in. Are these applications recommended to submit ASAP considering rolling or can they submit before the deadline for the BS/MD program deadlines?
If the UG is a separate application and you need to wait to apply for BS/MD then is it better to submit UG rolling first?
Thank you
Hi can anyone guide this response for this please in interest of time
Penn State PMM programās deadline is Oct 10.
Rutgers-Newarkās deadline for its BS/MD is Nov 1.
Rolling admissions is only for regular undergrad.
Tysm
Ensure all supplemental questions for Penn State and the 4-part 600-word essay for Rutgers-Newark before the deadline.
All the very best.
Are letters of recommendation required for the GAP program at UPitt?
Yes - 2 LORs for Pitt-GAP
I just got Coca-Cola scholarship semifinalist status! Is this worth putting on college applications and BS/MD applications?
Yes
Question about the Common App personal statement for a BSMD applicant. Is it highly recommended the common App essay talks about something only at a personal level and not state anything about an activity that could inspire the student towards medicine, because the Why Med essays cover that part?
I have an essay that is personal and also indicates my career choice however since the medicine essays are in detail about the career do I rather rewrite my common app essay to cater only for my personal experience and story and not include anything on academics or volunteering/shadowing? Please suggest
Hello any experiences here around Siena college can you please help? My kid is ORM female and highly service interested, has done several service , advocacy roles. Looking for opinion on the Siena/AMC 8 year BA MD program. Is it too much religion oriented by chance? How is the environment like? Sorry do not mean to hurt anyone but asking as Asian female do they fit in here even if she gets in? Please advise. Thanks
Your common app essay is introducing yourself to adcoms who want to know what you bring to their college. They really dont care about why you want to be a doctor other than as a tidbit but what you can contribute to the college as part of their student body.
Hi!! I am a current freshman (not in a BSMD program) but I got into a couple MD programs this past application cycle and if anyone needs help with reviewing essays or wants to practice for an interview or wants specific BS/MD tips, please feel free to reach out- Iād love to help. My stats werenāt as crazy as most peopleās here and I STILL made it. So yeah, if you need any help, donāt hesitate to DM me:)
So should the common app essay now be revised or can I keep to it address my personal life experience and at end talkin about med aspirations? What specifically to include about contributing to college, can you pls explain? Like service or research? Would it not become academic again? Or like dance or music? Thank you for help, hope someone can guide
No one can advise you what to do without knowing how things read.
General rule of thumb - Your commonapp essay and why medicine essay should read without overlap. Whoever is reading your medicine essay also will have access to your common app essay if they are a common app school.
Your common app essay - your life experiences that you bring to the school(s) and why the schools should admit you.
Your why medicine essay - what have you done in terms of volunteering, research, extracurriculars that make you suitable for medicine and what motivates you towards medicine.
