Thread for BSMD 2020-2021 Applicants (Part 1)

10 accepted 5 alternates

For UMKC - what would be the final price after 6 years ? looks very expensive.

 some kid told me that they accept 10-15 and then alternates on top of that

they never say they are treating them equally though thats the issuei noticed when i looked at the site.

i hoppe so. its just beenm y dream program for years and im rly bummed without the sat

I feel you, I can’t do medical volunteering or internships cause my mother is chronically ill and I’m one of her care takers. I also couldn’t take the sat either. So yeah my EC are lacking and I have no score, but college admission officers are people, and people are more understanding than you’d think. So have faith in human empathy and that they will understand your situation, cause I’m sure they will.

Wait rems is 10/50 selected with 5 alternates. Thats liekk a 20 percent chance and I dont have an sat on top of that. Idt theres even a chance even w my ecs. 10 ppl come on. I thought because im from bay it helps but i dont know how true that is either

I honestly feel you’re simply wasting too much of your time on this thread instead focus on the thread if any about REMS interview and prepare your best. W’re all waiting to hear the good news soon.

You have great ECs Kiddo, I really think you are in that 20%. As @mygrad2021 mentioned, stop wasting time here, focus on the interview, you have very good chance. They clearly mentioned on their site that tests are less important to them: "We look forward to a time when applicants won’t take any extra test for their Rochester application, since we don’t need them. In the real world for now, as students apply to Rochester along with many other places who do require specific tests, we will continue assigning value to that effort. "

it does say that but it says this too FOR REMS specifically and it seems to point at how test scores have an advamtage:

The REMS admission rate is about two percent. If you believe that your test results help reinforce the strength of your overall application to REMS, you should submit them. However, all candidates with an interest in REMS will receive the same thorough review, whether they submit test scores or not. The same is true for scholarships. Test scores are not required to compete for any of Rochester’s scholarships, including our National Merit scholarships. However, applicants interested in scholarships can submit test scores.

What do you want us to say here ? Are you serious here ? You have to convince yourself that you are worth REMS. If you are serious about REMS, please do not waste your time here on CC.

@REMSHOPEFUL123 - Let us know, what you want us all to respond, and we will respond EXACTLY how you want.
We all tried to give you the facts, assured you, congratulated you and wished you the best for the upcoming interview- but nothings seems to calm your nerves.
Please understand that all of us have some positives and some negatives in this admission cycle - some have awesome SAT scores but doesn’t have the EC’s or vice versa.
This admission cycle has been very unique and no one knows what happens or how the applicants for the interviews are picked. In this season, We have seen a valedictorian with perfect GPA did not get any interviews and someone with not nearly perfect score got in ivy schools.

Honestly, Take a break from this forum, enjoy your senior year, prepare for the interview and have your parents help you stay in the forum to get the needed information.

We all wish you all the very best for your upcoming interview.

If you are really worried about just tests, you have option to submit them later and you can commit to that option. But they mentioned on their site that test is another EC for them and you already have outstanding ECs that no one can match. And you can probably articulate in the interview how this program is your dream program. If your EC is strong, then you have advantage over the one that is presenting their test score as EC.

IMO, We should all ignore @REMSHOPEFUL123 after @TensedMOM’s caring reply.

Rather let them give an opportunity to be mature. This is one of behavior trait that adcoms bother when they fill the medical class, perfectionist are getting more scrutiny.

Has anyone heard from GW yet ?

Not yet for my S. I think that many kids in our group received interviews. Not sure whether they are done or not

I had visited this page several times earlier, never noticed the 250 word limit for Stony Brook scholarship essay. Not sure if they updated it recently. A previous post said it was 650 words per one of the admission counselors. Thanks for sharing the link.
