Thread for BSMD Applicants 2019

UIC-GPPA 7rs BS/MD results out today…
My son got acceptance to prestigious UIC-GPPA 7rs BS/MD…

@sajju786. So nice …Congratulations !!!

Thanks @whitecane

@gallentjill - i believe one would be able to research definitely at AMC (most if not all RPI-AMC BS-MD students do research at AMC). i’m not familiar with Union. research can also be done during residency as well, though admittedly tougher to incorporate into an ob/gyn residency. so i would do my best to do research in undergrad and/or medical school. anecdotally, one of my very good friends from college went to AMC (via RPI-AMC program) and is currently a reproductive endocrinoloy and infertility specialist.

@sajju786 - congratulations to your son! great news. is that his top choice?

Congratulations @sajju786

I have a quick question. Currently, my GPA is 3.8 (UW) and my weighted is 4.2(W). After this semester it should be a 3.82+ UW and a 4.25+ W. I’m currently a sophomore, and received a C in Spanish AC freshman year first semester. I’m retaking the class, and probably will get an A so my Uw can go up to a 3.85 and my weighted will go up as well.

So I’m projected to be around a 3.8 to 3.95 UW and a 4.5 W range. I was wondering will a 3.8 make a big difference for BSMD compared to a 3.9 or higher?

Congratulations @sajju786! That’s awesome news. I was under the impression UIC GPPA is an 8 year BSMD program. Did they change that to 7 years?

@OldSchoolMD…yes and I emailed today to Univ of Cincinnati - Dual Connections Program, OU Medical Humanities and FAU-SOM that we are withdrawing our application so other kids can be invited for interview of offered the spot.

D has made her decision and will be attending Union/AMC. In the end, the integration of the MS with the BA was a huge factor. She spent time on Union campus and connected with several LIM students who all seemed happy and very welcoming. Its always hard to chose one and close other doors. Honestly, she is better at that than I am. I really think this is the right decision. No one program is going to be perfect in every area, but they are all amazing. Thanks everyone here for all their help and guidance!

@sajju786 , Congratulations. That’s great to be accepted in the same state.

Thanks @Smilescreen…and it is going to be very cost effective…

@ad2019…you can do in 7 or 8 yrs at UIC-GPPA.
Some kids try to do it in 6yrs but they do not allow even if they finish in less than 3 yrs you have to wait and then get in Medical School after 3 yrs.
So minimum is 7rs but some kids do in 8yrs too…

@@sajju786 Congratulations on UIC-GPPA 7yr BSMD.

@sajju786 Congratulations! That’s really nice of you to send the withdrawal to other universities thinking of others on the waiting list! =D>

Congratulations @gallentjill on your decision to attend Union/AMC. From what I’ve heard it’s a good program.
