Thread for those got defered by Duke

Leave a message here if you got defered by Duke. Let's see if we can meet most defered applicants here and we may figure out some better ways together to increase our chance in Regular Decision.

Might’ve been the first person in the world to check status here :p, no page error and got it at 6:00:01. But i got deferred too

Future plans:
Step 1: Murder all Early Decision acceptees
Step 2: Send smiley face email to Duke
Step 3: ???

Profit!!!

Deferred as well. But I have no clue what can help me. I’m just adding schools and pushing forward.

Being deferred was a real heartbreak even though I knew Duke was probably out of my league. Out of curiosity, where else are you guys now applying? I understand if you don’t want to post b/c of possible competition, but I’m just curious. My college list is already set in stone.

sAfuRos, as a current freshman, i truly hope you’re accepted.

The letter said this year there are 2250 applicants, defered a third, and will finally admit 10%, that’s mean there are only about 75 students among us will finally be admitted. I guess this is something just like the waiting list. Chances are very, very limitted~~~
Too sad to get this news~~~since I love Duke so much.

deferred also…legitimately though i was surprised to even get that i was totally prepared for a rejection
it just sucks that now i have to do more apps

It seems most of poeple here got offers to Duke, only a few got defered~~~

I was wondering if any of you have spoken to your Admissions Counselor to get feedback on why you may have been deferred? Do they do that??

^No, I didn’t. Did you?

Btw guys, I was reading an article and saw that 29% of ED applicants got in, which is depressing. Most of the schools I’m applying to RD have acceptance rates lower than 29%. ■■■. Why did we get deferred…bad bad sign.

To those of you deferred, remember you were not denied (yet). This means that the admissions counselors did see something in all of you and you guys are a potential hope to call yourself Dukies for the next four years. It now comes down to who wants it the most. Some people in the end get rejected and justify it, saying that no one had any idea how bad they wanted it. The world is not a computer where they can calculate your intelligence, future success level, or even desire for that part. You need to show it. Call the Guttentag and leave him a voicemail and make sure he remembers your name by saying something interesting in that 20 seconds. Email your state admission counselor and keep in touch with them atleast on a weekly basis. They will reply to perhaps 1/10 of your emails, but they will surely receive and read your emails. Hell, email all the admissions counselors if you really wanted to. Send a new essay and spice it up. Show some humor if you hadn’t before. In my opinion it comes down to who wants it most, and you guys will need to show it. In the end though, everyone is happy where they end up (for the most part). Best of luck fellow CCers

Thanks a lot for your suggestions. Thank you! ( By the way, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!)

I actually heard that they’re only accepting 25-30 deferred applicants…ahhhh this sucks.

Thought I’d bump this as I’m sure all Deferred ED kids are on pins and needles now. Have y’all done anything extra since originally submitting your application? I’m thinking by now everyone would feel open about sharing any extra efforts they made as it would be too late for anyone else to “steal their idea”. Anybody?

I was named an Intel STS semifinalist…hopefully that award has enough weight to get me admitted. I didn’t write a letter or anything though, which I probably should have. Although I reaffirmed that Duke was my top choice while updating my application.

I thought that it was 10 percent of the deferred applicants and that there were about 600-800 deferrals which gives 60-80, not 25-30.

On another note, this Michigan vs. Duke game is ****ing me off.

I did some new things. I got a Presidential Gold Service Award, Congressional Service Award, another small scale service award. Also got an extra recommendation from the Dean of Students at Hood College where I took a class and a letter from the President of the Entrepreneur Council of my county. And then of course wrote a love letter to Duke. Hoping it helps!!

@L2theWu, congrats on being on a semifinalist! That’s great :)
