Thanks Soxmom, I appreciate the advice. If/when she gets in, and she has a choice of schools, we will definitely dig deeper in this area. Thank you!
OK. For @cameo43 & @PhotographerMom, Bad Kitty is back for M10 good luck.
Good luck to everyone. And extra good luck to @stargirl3 .
Welcome back Bad Kitty! And good luck to everyone!

Kalashnikov Kitty is back! Yes!!!
This seems as good a place as any to introduce ourselves in the run up to M10. I have been lurking and learning over the last couple of months, after starting the application process late in November. We have really appreciated all of the insight and advice here, and am delighted to become part of the community.
Here’s a little about us (not asking for any chances or feedback, just sharing). DS is a 9th-grader from very under-represented state, applying to a combination of HADES, second tier, and hidden gem schools (6 in all). DS a solid student and has board scores in range (if a little imbalanced toward verbal) of the most competitive schools. DS has developed a drive and dedication to an EC in the last year that I hope shines through in his applications, and it was pretty apparent that BS was his initiative and he is well-positioned to take advantage of all that boarding school has to offer. But he doesn’t have a standout EC with a long track record, so he lacks a big “hook” beyond geography and being a great, smart kid. And we clock in at 35-50% financial need.
So I have absolutely no idea what to expect on M10. But we sure did have fun and learn a lot about our kid in this process! I went to one of the hidden gem single-sex schools mentioned in this forum, back in the 80s. Driving around the east coast with DS reminded me of my experience applying to BS and how that opened up so many doors for me. A really proud moment was when he said: “No matter what happens this has been a good experience because it has required a level of self-reflection that I don’t think many kids my age undertake.”
Welcome, Waayoutwest! Best of luck to your family for M10. Do let us know the results!
Wayoutwestkid sounds very mature. Best of luck!
Welcome, and good luck!
Hi Way Out West, we are out west as well. I appreciated your son’s comment, because my daughter said something along the same lines - her brother’s best friend’s older brother was going through the college application process at roughly the same time she was applying to boarding school, and they would talk from time to time, and she said, “Even if I don’t get into boarding school, at least I’m ready for applying to college.”!
Yes, great practice for college apps! Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone.
@soxmom What school was it? I’m a drama kid and I applied to Saint Andrews School, Milton, Saint Paul’s School, Andover, and Exeter. Was it any of those schools?
Hi all. I have been lurking for a while too and have just recently started to post a bit. This is our second year going through the process. DD was waitlisted everywhere last year and is reapplying for 10th grade. It was a really rough M10 (both for us and DD) last year as we were incredibly naive and really knew nothing of the process. This time around, we widened our search and focused on some of the areas that we didn’t even consider putting into her apps last time around. Good luck to everyone!
Welcome dreamcatcher. Good luck to everyone, wayoutwest, lurker, and dreamcatcher!
Bump as a reminder/request for people to report all results from today (or yesterday as it were)…not just the good news.
Best of luck to all. And please, no more offering “condolences” when someone doesn’t get admitted. Nobody died. It’s not the end of the world. Offer support of course, but refrain from mourning.
You are offering condolences, though, it’s a form of support.
@SevenDad: Regardless of my bad news, I will still be posting my results tonight to be of reference to applicants next year.
I encourage others to do the same.
I’m in for reporting all news - we got a surprise rejection from a school way down on our list. I am convinced it is to protect yield - a topic of interest discussed in the past. I am waiting on Choate, Andover, and Webb…
So far we have a wait list from Concord, rejections from Exeter and Loomis, and a letter from NMH that left me wondering if DS had been rejected or wait listed. Still waiting on Andover and Milton but I don’t have high hopes given the other results and no FedEx notifications. DS seems to be taking it in stride–I am out of town on business so all communication is via text and he instructed me to calm down when I expressed the slightest indignance. Will post full results and stats tonight or when we have all results, and maybe some additional thoughts/reflections. Congrats to all those who received good news today. Onward!
