I got put in Thurgood Marshall College. Was wondering what people think are pros and cons of it?
Same ^^
Pros: brand new 24/7 dining hall + goody’s burritos
DOC fulfills DEI requirement
Easy enough GEs
v social dorm layout
Cons:
Kind of ugly
Dorms are far and isolated from rest of campus
Apartments kind of old w moths/spiders
Marshall here too. Love goody’sss. Best place to spend dining $$.
I am a current Marshall student and I don’t love UCSD (I’m planning on transferring, but it’s more me looking for different things rather than the quality of education) but I love Marshall a lot.
DOC can either be a pro or a con, depending on how enthusiastic about social justice you are (I personally loved it, but I know some conservatives don’t). In general, Marshall has a huge emphasis on being a Scholar and Citizen (it is Thurgood Marshall after all). This principle is especially strongly held in Marshall organizations and Marshall Student council (I highly recommend you get involved within Marshall!). I second the buildings being pretty ugly, but I also think quite a few buildings at UCSD are ugly. However, I don’t think Marshall is too far from the center of campus, it’s directly next to Muir and ERC. The Marshall staff are very friendly too (Dean Bernard is awesome)! I think you’ll have a great time next year.
