TI-84 Silver vs. TI-89 Titanium (most high performance machine)

If you have never used a graphing calculator before, and you want to use one for the SAT I, which is the hands down favorite? The TI-84 silver (to download the OS SAT programs), or the TI-89 titanium?

I had the creator of a math curriculum tell me that he preferred the TI-84 because it was much more user friendly. However, I have heard that once you have learned how to use the TI-89, it is a superior calculator for the SAT.

If you have a couple of weeks to learn the TI-89, so that its use becomes automatic, will that be a better machine in the long run? And yes, I know many will chime in about not needing a calculator for the SAT, but I don't really want to debate that now.

Is the TI-89 appropriate for a first time graphing calculator user? Or should they get experience on the TI-84 first?

My bottom line question is this: For pure "high performance" on the SAT which is the "hands-down winner?"
Thanks,
Ryan

I have had my TI-89 Titanium since Algebra II. Although the teacher let me use the TI-89, I was able to do problems without showing work.

But, when I took AP Chemistry at the same time, the solver function on the TI-89 is awesome.

As for the SAT, since it only has up to Algebra II, the TI-89 will basically solve any algebra problems on the calculator if you know how it works.

The TI-89 is my first graphing calculator. I'm getting the TI-84 next because my Calc teacher won't let me use the TI-89 in class.

i agree with said creator of math curriculum

I'd actually suggest a scientific calculator for your SATs if you've never used a graphing one before. It might confuse you. And none of the algebra require a graphing calculator. So basically, if you need one to do the algebra, then it's easy to make a mistake and not catch it.

Better to use a calculator you're comfortable with.
