Looks like ESPN has big expectations for Yale soccer this year (made the frontpage of the collegesports section of espn.com)

Is there any way we can have a special forum set up where posterX and Byerly (and maybe f.scottie too) can argue with each other as much as they like without infecting other threads that are totally unrelated? It really becomes annoying after a while.

Can you please not completely destroy every thread in the Yale Forum by talking about harvard. Really, how myopic of someone who daily laments yalies for their harvard obsession.

I don't "lament" Yalies for their Harvard obsession. Its unavoidable and quite understandable in historical context.

"Ivy League sports produce some intense fans and deep-seated hatreds, but no rivalry is as bitter as Yale-Harvard. The Cantabs may suck, but they do something for us that no one else could -- they make us care, truly and deeply, about Yale sports. In every sport, from fencing to ice hockey, the best Yale athletes prove their mettle by showing that they can play their best against Harvard..."

I don't know if that's true.

We still don't care about sports even with a "rival."

from your second article:

"The men's soccer team fell in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in 2005, but the women's team advanced to the round of 16. The Bulldogs pulled off one of the greatest upsets in NCAA tournament history, scoring the go-ahead goal as time expired and upsetting third-seeded Duke. The game was so good it was featured on ESPN.com, and head coach Rudy Meredith's team has emerged as one of the premiere destinations for women's soccer recruits in the Northeast."

Nice to have women's soccer to root for while the football team is in an extended funk, I suppose.

"Alumni across the country really care that Yale has lost The Game for the past five years, and the outcome of this November's contest will make a difference to them -- and to us. The Yale-Harvard rivalry is one of the things that makes Yale sports matter."

Posters, this thread start was, I believe, about Yale soccer.

Posters who continue to disrupt threads with off-topic posts will be at risk of losing posting privileges. Please keep posts to the specific topic of the thread.

Thanks for your cooperation.
