I really need help with time management. When I'm not in class, work study, or doing something else school-related, I just feel exhausted and want to sleep. I get my work done eventually, but have not been REALLY studying the material, which I know is essential for success in college. Does anyone have any tips? It's easier said than done, so the same old advice probably won't help me.

I find I have to make time to do things for myself or else I get burnt out and can’t work, and then I fall asleep over my homework and use all my spare time for sleeping. I would suggest seeing if there’s any way you can cut your workload to something more manageable or see if you can cram any time at all in the day for yourself to relax and rejuvenate yourself. I take walks in the park and bubble baths. Only takes 20 minutes or so, and then I am ready to pull through a six hour study session. It’s better to do that than to pass out in the middle and not get done.

And, on a more obvious note, are you getting enough sleep at night?

Yeah…I’ve been getting 6-8 hours every night so I’m wondering why I’m so tired. Thanks for your advice though! I will definitely try that.

There’s a little section on time management along with a list of other websites that go into more depth.

I have time management problems too. What I do is every Sunday (my free day) I sit down and create a chart with what I have to do that week.

First chart: In word I create 2 rows: First row I write my 4 classes and in the second row I write the corresponding required reading and assignments for the week.

Second Chart (I have a board on my wall I write this on):I list each day and list what time I work, what time I intern and what time I have school. I then write in study time too as if its a set time. For instance:
Monday: Intern 9 -5, Study Econ 7-9
Tuesday: Class 8:55 - 3:45, Study Human Behavior 6-9
Wednesday: Study/Write EngComp Paper 10 - 1, work 4 -10

By creating a chart every week I know when my free time is and I dont feel overwhelmed by all of my assignments. It is time consuming to spend 15 min every sunday and create these charts but I find it really helpful! I hope it helps you. I started this system my freshman year of undergrad and now I am in my last year of graduate school!
