Hi, my D was accepted into Elon after being on the waitlist. Any idea when they release their financial support packages?
Also, do they usually send out hard copies of their acceptance comment with possible merit scholarship amount a few days after the original email?

Thanks

My Daughter (admitted Early Action) received her scholarship amount upon receipt of the initial email accepting her.

How about FAFSA? We received FAFSA and CSS from her second choice college already (U of Denver), and it would be nice to be able to compare the cost of the two schools fairly. She was accepted on Tuesday of last week and we havent received a merit scholarship (no matter how small) and/or FAFSA amount. I cant imagine anybody accepting without knowing the cost up front.

We rcvd our FAFSA last week from Elon - Submitted end of January. I found out we are “rich” LOL

Yeah, I am worried too, and we arent rich… LOL
After the package my D received at U of Denver, we are hoping and praying that Elon (hers and ours first choice) come through with a nice FAFSA amount. Found out Monday that there was a problem that will put us behind even more. SS that my D filled out was one digit off from the FAFSA SS (which I did, and did correct) Just another thing to make us sweat…

We received my award letter last week and submitted FAFSA/CSS in early February. Need based amount was not favorable although they had already awarded merit aid.

According to Collegedata (great resource btw)

60.5% of freshman applicants are found to have financial need
99.2% of those get some aid
and the average percent of that need that is met is 62%

https://www.collegedata.com/cs/data/college/college_pg03_tmpl.jhtml?schoolId=1202

So, for students who have financial need and who don’t get merit aid, families will have to come up with 38% of the gap between need and what’s awarded. We found that to be consistent with our experience. But keep in mind that very few schools actually meet 100% of student need. You just have to compare the bottom line when all the offers are in.

Realize that the cost of attendance (COA) at Elon is far lower than many private schools. Our daughter was awarded $17k in need based aid from another private school, and very little at Elon, but Elon was still the better deal for us because the COA at that school was so much higher. Many schools have a very high COA and then subsidize the lower income students with the extra from the higher income students. Elon doesn’t do this, which I appreciate.

Elon’s success as a school is relatively new. The alumni base is young and there hasn’t been time to build a large endowment. I hope that soon, Elon will have the money to meet 100% of student need, but until then, we believe it’s worth the difference in cost for the experience our daughter is getting there.

good luck getting any money from elon.

We just got the Financial Aid package last week, and it was short of what we were expecting. Also, very little, and I do mean very little merit aid. With that said, even though this was my D’s first choice, her second choice (U of Denver) which is quite a bit more expensive before aid came up with the goods to make it less expensive by 7,000 over EU. Guess which one she will pick? With the college fund that my daughter was given by GGM, and Aunt, she could go to DU without tanking out any loans, EU she will have 49,000 worth of them?
I wouldnt want loans either. A little disappointed with EU…

I wonder if you did the net price calculator and if so, how your FA package compared to the estimate? We used the net price calculator two years ago - and the prediction matched the final result quite accurately. I think Elon is pretty straight forward with their strategy to have a lower price than most peer schools, but also with less FA. Sorry it did not work out for you.

It was less than the price calculator, and although still doeable with a small loan, it will be up to my D to make up her mind on no loan for Denver, or a small loan at EU. We will let her make that decision.
We loved both schools, so its a Win Win whichever one she choses.

aggriffin3, just wondering if your D was accepted off the waitlist from the RD pool or ED or EA? My D was waitlisted RD and we are curious when she will here/if we will get any financial aid from Elon.
