Timing of materials, etc

I am sure these questions have been asked and answered somewhere here in the thousands of posts, but I have not seen them.

As folks new to the common app, I am wondering about the timing of requested materials. Can a student send in the major portion of the app (and fees) and send in his essay later?
And supplementary materials? Can they be sent at a later date as well?

(I assume reccomendations, transcripts etc all come in at different times, but these are out of the student's control, so my question is specifically about those materials requested of and provided by the student)

Thanks

I'm not sure the CA will even LET you submit the application without the essay (electronically) as that's a required part of the student package. But either way, I would recommend that the student submit the entire application (including essay) and supplement at the same time. I don't think it's a good idea to take the additional chance of a part being separated from the main application, particularly since it doesn't help to send some parts early, as admissions won't read the application until it's complete. Hope that helps.

Thanks
good advice

There are a couple of schools that tell you to submit the general part of the Common App as soon as you can, and can send your essays in later. They use the basic Common App to start your file.

OK good to know Zetesis
Best to see what each college asks for I guess. Can I assume that any supplemental app required by the particular school can come at a later time than the main app?
