Timing

My son submitted his application document on August 16th (after the window opened on Aug 15). I’m uncertain about his status after he received the message below and was asked to fill out the student inventory questionnaire:

Thank you for your patience and continued interest in Michigan State University. An initial review of your application indicates you are a competitive applicant to MSU. Due to an increase in the quantity and quality of freshman applications, the Office of Admissions requires additional time to thoroughly review all applicants before making a final decision.

Admissions decisions will be released on a rolling basis, beginning in mid-October 2016. Our intention is to deliver your decision within 12-weeks from the time your application was complete; including all your supporting documents (personal statement, transcript and test-scores).

No additional information or documents are required. The most up-to-date information will be posted to your account as soon as it becomes available. Students will be notified by email when a change occurs on your account.

Thank you again for your patience.

MY QUESTION: We’re now past the 12 week window for a decision. His GPA is a 3.9 overall with a 25 on the ACT. Has anyone experienced this? I have believed he would get his final decision by the expiration of the 12 week window.

I would call MSU and nicely bring the fact that the 12 week window has passed.
I would ask if their was something missing that your side of the application missed or if there was some other complication that caused this delay in a decision.

I got this notice around the beginning of November (I applied at the beginning of October) and was accepted on November 18, 2016, so tell him to hang in there. Although my GPA was a 3.52 overall, my SAT score was a 1350 which is close to a 30 on the ACT.
