Tips for freshman registration for classes during Camp War Eagle?

Hello! Does anyone have any tips for registering for classes during Camp War Eagle?? Such as:

  1. Should we have an idea before arriving what classes we want to register for?
  2. Assuming prime teachers and times go early during each registration session, how to make sure we are early to register during our session?
  3. Where to find recommendations for teachers and classes to take.

Thanks!

  1. No. Your advisors will take care of that. It's probably detrimental to worry about that.
  2. You will not 'be early' to registration. It begins promptly at 2:45 pm. You will be in the computer lab at 2:30 pm. Everyone will have to wait until the advisors say 'go', signaling you can start adding classes. This is why they encourage you to draft 'back up' schedules.
  3. The teachers teaching each section aren't available for you to look at or worry about, and you shouldn't. You're there to make your schedule, not try to rank your teachers. You'll have plenty to focus on as it is. Your advisors will hand out sheets based on your major of what classes you'll probably be taking.
  1. Make sure you are good with the Registrar / have no registration holds (bills paid/up to date, insurance and medical forms completed and turned in, etc.). Bring a folder with backup/copies to Camp just in case there was a paperwork snafu.
  2. Many of the class instructors are currently listed as to be announced (TBA) - where the departments won’t assign specific staff to specific class sections until right before classes start in August. So, don’t expect much useful info from RateMyProfessor or similar sites for freshman registration. Don’t stress over it.
  3. Your advisors will be trying to get you to select courses which which will fulfill prerequisites for your major and general graduation requirements - listen to them.
  4. If there is a course you really want/need and it looks like you can’t get it, ask your advisor about waitlist options.
  5. Tuesday(T) - Thursday® classes are generally 75min and MWF classes are generally 50min (with 10 min between classes). For classes with labs, the lab section will be at a separate time/place - generally in a single 3 hour block
  6. Try not to schedule your hardest classes back to back.
  7. Just because you placed out of a class/requirement (by AP or testing) doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t consider taking it anyway if it is a foundational course for your major. YMMV.
  8. Don’t be afraid of early classes (but be sure you attend all of them).
  9. Don’t try to work your schedule to free up fridays for the weekend.
  10. Course load ~12 hours (minimum), 13-15 (average to graduate on time), 16-18 (overload). YMMV.
