Tips for the "Why [insert school here]?" essays.

Thought this would be a good topic. What is the best way to tackle these kinds of essays? Some colleges put tremendous weight on them.

I mean, for Brown, I don't really want to do the cliche "I went there and loved the close-knit community" essay, but I'm unsure. I was thinking of talking about their Physics department, and how many undergraduate research opportunities there are, and how this pleases me since I have been doing research this summer and enjoying it? Or something like that. How does that sound?

This topic isn't about me though. Give general tips to all if you have them.

you shouldn't necessarily talk only about why you want brown, but also why brown wants you.

What you say isn't that important. It's HOW you say it that matters.

and it's HOW you say it the MOST difficult thing task. Once you know how to tackle it, you can pretty much say it's a good essay

Your essay topic is going to be done by many other students, though maybe not about the Physics Department specifically. So you must stand out, and it is doable. Also, talking about how great Brown is isn't exactly breathtaking material, well because they know how great it is.

Answer the following question, IMHO will help you write a unique essay that makes you stand out compared with the plethora of other applicants:

What do you bring to Brown that it does not already possess and how will you integrate into it to make it a better place?

Answering that in a unique style and will definitely help your cause. Good luck.
