Hi,

I'm currently a sophomore in high school and I plan to take the SAT in fall of my junior year. I have already started studying, I have the blue book, SAT Word Power for vocab, and am taking practice tests every week.

However, on the PSAT I got a 172 and on my last practice test I got 1750. I am aiming for at least 2200 on the SAT. What are your tips for improvement? My strongest is Writing and weakest is CR.

Thanks!

Really, you’re doing all you can by studying. Continue taking practice tests and using SAT practice books. Hone in on what specific parts of reading and math you are struggling with (Idioms? Sentence structure? Pythagorean Theorem?) and FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS on the specific areas where you are struggling. The SAT test basically tests the same concepts each and every tests but with different questions. Take AP classes as a junior, if you can. In honors and AP classes, you’ll learn above and beyond what will be on the SAT so it’ll be really helpful. And remember, you’re only a sophomore! You still have a year and a half really to get that 2200. My SAT score is a 2140 and the first time I took it (as a sophomore) I barely got an 1800.

Hey. I started off last summer with the intention of taking the SATs in october and november. I went to an SAT prep course for 5 days at the end of the holidays, did a practice paper at the end and got 1360 (though i was jetlagged and generally not in the right mindstate at the time). Anyway, i focused on practising questions for the next month and got a 1900 (660M 630CR 610W) in october. I was pretty bummed out about this as i was applying to some fairly selective schools, plus I got this news within 9 days of when i was supposed to do my next one and hadn’t improved much since. So yeah I just put my head down that whole week doing about 2-3 sections of each part of writing, math and CR a day. Ended up with a 2200 (700M 720CR 780W) in november. I figured that for anyone fluent in english the writing section is probably the easiest to get an 800 in with alot of practice as smithg1227 said. CR is really about getting to grips with the passage and learning words. I learnt about 60 words every 2 days the week before my last SAT. Just literally write them down and cram them. With the Math it goes without saying that practice is also the key ingredient. Hope this helps and goodluck brah
