Tips on transferring to Boston College, UC Berkeley, USC, Vanderbilt

I'm starting my first year at Long Beach City College right now because I didn't get into some of the schools that I had set my eye on in high school. I was hoping someone could provide some tips on transferring to BC, UCLA, CAL, Vanderbilt... etc. (Basically tips on transferring to the top schools in the nation). Also, is it even possible to transfer to BC or Vanderbilt from city college?

In a nutshell, I'm planning on getting straight A's at city. So I'd just like some tips on what else I can do to have a chance at getting into some of these schools.

My SAT is a 1980, ACT is a 29

Lastly, My grandfather, uncle, and aunt went to USC and my sister currently goes there. I'm sure that will help my chances but I don't know how much.

Anything helps! Thank you :)

If you can keep a 3.7+ GPA and participate in several ECs, you should get into some of those schools. I, myself will be a freshman at DePaul this year and am looking to transfer next year. I have a 29 ACT and was ranked in the top 6% of my class. I’ve been on CC for a while now and I’ve come to learn that you can’t give up hope when applying to transfer. Numerous times I’ve found myself pessimistic about my chances of getting into some of my dream schools, then I read something else and instantly my confidence is restored. Just do your best at your current institution and you will find yourself at a top school next year :)

Thanks! Bump… anyone else?
