I go to the top school in my state and my life is full of nothing but stress on top of more stress. I get so much work that I never have time for ME and I struggle a lot. I almost didn't get into this school. I was waitlisted, but miraculously I was accepted a few weeks before summer break. Sometimes I ask myself if going here was a mistake, but I feel like God maybe put me into this school for a reason. Is it wrong to want to kind of take a backseat with college. It's great to be able to say you got into an ivy, but once you're there a lot is expected of you. I love the prestige of an ivy, but I don't think I could handle the workload. Am I taking the easy way out if I choose a school based on it rigorousness? I just want to go somewhere where I can workhard and succeed as well as enjoy everything else the college has to offer.

People who choose schools based on rigor and rigor alone are potential suicide candidates.

That’s better.

LOL why do you say that people who choose schools based on rigor are potential suicide candidates?

I don’t like people like you.

Oh, that was just my way of saying that they’re probably not very happy. College (and life) is more than just what grade you’re getting or how intelligent you are.

If you choose an Ivy or other top tier school, it’s because you believe that you can thrive there best.

God didn’t put you there, you did. Why did you apply if you weren’t prepared? Do what you want, not what everyone else wants from you. Otherwise you’ll never be happy.

you’ll be okay. you’re just going through a tough time right now, but it will get better. just have faith!

Aero, some sole peice of advice on the last sentence… exactly what i was looking for but on CC i was getting something different

you need a straw?
to SUCK IT UP??

^I look at it as fate. I didn’t get in (terrible math scores) and then just as soon as I pushed the school out of sight and out of mind, I get an acceptance letter. I dunno, I like to look at it as fate I applied because other people in my Talent Development class were applying. They said it was a really good school, one of the best in the state if not the best. I had no idea how much work it was going to be. I worked hard in 8th grade and did well, loved being on top, and all of my friends applied (it would have been really nice if they had all gotten in, but none of them did).

AeroEngineer, that’s what I’m saying. I don’t think that I can thrive at an ivy, but my dad’s trying to nudge me toward them. If I tell him I don’t think I would do well there academically he will lash out at me. In anger, I once flat out told him that I didn’t care about ivy leagues and he lost it, but I’ve been looking at ivys to make the application process smoother for both of us. If I apply, it’ll make him happy and in the end I can choose wherever I want to go. But who knows, I might find an ivy that I really like. I want to go to a great school, definitely a competitive one, but I don’t want to push myself over the edge, like I am now.

god doesn’t care where u go to college he’s too busy running the feed the children program in darfur

God has time for all of us. He can do anything

but he’d be doing u a favor to let u pick ur own college :-P

exactly! you’re so smart Quaker!!

So I guess the consensus is that taking into account how well I can do academically is a bad idea?

i second that notion

AeroEngineer3141:
I second that!

well we do live in a capitalistic society…maybe if you are tired of competition you could go to north korea.

Go to a school you’d like. There’s no point in spending four years of your life being miserable if you can help it.

Yeah I am in pretty much the exact same situation you are in right now… I transferred to a private, competitive high school after going to a crappy public school district all my life. And let me tell you, it was HARD. And it still is hard today. Especially since it seems as though everyone in my school has an advantage over me since they all came from really good private middle schools and pretty much everyone’s parents are either a doctor or a lawyer. But the only thing you can do right now is to push through it all and don’t ever let the stress of it all bring you down. If you had the ability to make it such a good school then you will have the ability to get through it as well…good luck & don’t give up!
