However, the information NYU provides on the specifications for the film is basically... nonexistent.</p>

Must it be plot-based?
Could I submit a documentary I made rather than a scripted film and not be penalized for it?</p>

<p>My son submitted a short scripted film and a portion of a documentary. Must have done the trick, because he was accepted. He debated what to submit and ultimately decided to submit what he felt was the best representation of his work, although the scripted film was very dark.</p>

<p>As long as you’re telling a story, it should be fine. Documentaries can tell stories, certainly.</p>
